Therapeutic Buddy 125

Honestly, life has been sucking for me lately. My only vice in life is caffeine, lots of work, lots of stress and very little play.

Recently i bought a new buddy 125 (2012) and i take a 30 minute-ish drive most evenings along the ocean road in southern california.

I look forward to the ride during the day, i enjoy every second of the ride itself and when return i am a better father, better husband and frankly a much happier person. sleep has been better too.

Do i love my buddy? Yes. Is my buddy a huge escape for me? Yes. Has my buddy exceeded all of my expectations? Yes. Is my buddy therapeutic for me? Yes. Is my wife "nicer" to me? Yes. Am i able to clear my head? yes. Is my sobriety in less danger? Yes.

Buddy 125...who knew?

You should email genuine scooters with that! They may post it on their website! Seriously thats very cool. This forum is great for sharing experiences like this and technical questions so welcome to ModernBuddy.

Well hello from Carlsbad.

I was in a little community access news story about scooters and the parts that didn't hit the cutting room floor were the parts about how my Buddy got me off antidepressants and cured me of depression! true story!! everyone else was about saving gas, I was about saving my life

I don't see well at night so I just commute to work (meaning dark coming home) but yes, you're in good company here in SD.

Yeah, my scoot is a big part of my sobriety also, not to mention how a ride can turn a crap day into a fun one pretty quickly.

Show the Buddy some love!

I too find it theraputic. At leat when it's warm enough not to fog the helmet. You SD folks have it pretty good!

Due to lots of ice I hadn't been on Yoda in a week, but yesterday was OK in the afternoon. Really enjoyed the ride, first time taking it over 60mph.

Who needs extra vitamins when you can just go for a ride!

I have a short commute to and from work, but spend a lot of time just riding around on weekends, enjoying the neighborhood. I'm a native Houstonian, lived here all my life (other than college years) and have explored places on the Buddy that I've never even thought to check out before. Will do more therapy-riding during the week once we go back on daylight savings time. Even running errands on it is less work and more fun!

Since I haven't been on the scoot in a couple months now, my winter cabin fever is killing me! I can't wait for it to start getting a wee bit warmer to ride to and from work again, it makes the day go by so much faster, and so less stressful! It also makes stopping by the bank and the grocery store more fun and less of a chore

Been a friend of Bills for 5 years (6 next week) and a friend of Buddys for 3 months. =)

Getting the Buddy is one of the best decisions I have made in the past 5 years.

That's me too! my normal commute is 15-20 min at the most. I tend to find things I 'must do' before headed home if its nice out. I mean, just because we picked up a case of butter at costco that will last a year, its not the same flavor. Gotta go to the store. Not the one near the house, oh no, I have to go 5 miles out of my way!

I find things to go do too! lol.

Another I found myself doing... Since I got the scooter I have been using Google maps to map out my route. I use the "Avoid Highways" option and it gives me cool new routes. And once I have done one a few times, I drag the little line it gives me around to give me new routes. I enjoy them. Where as in my car I just get on the highway and get to where I am going ASAP. Which is boring.

Absolutely, even after a 'lousy' day at work things seem in much better perspective by the time I have gotten home on the scooter!

I can't wait till weather warms up again to ride more!

I was thinking those were "Friends of Bill" references. Cograts on your 6-years coming up. I have what you call a "love, hate" relationship with Bill at the moment.

My scooter, though, is definetely one of my favorite vices.

+1 on scooters being therapeutic. So many times after a crap work day I just get on the bike and ride up to the mountains around here for a few hours. plus never having to worry about gas really helps for the ride up.

+1 for scooter therapy. I'm suffering from Buddy Withdrawal because I'm a fair weather rider and the weather is just too darn cold for me. But once the temps start getting in the 60s I can resume my therapy sessions.

I've been driving to my current job for over 22 years and I'll tell you that taking the Buddy has made it a whole lot more enjoyable. I believe the whole "keeping your eyeballs on a swivel" attitude about riding does make it more fun. I get peeved with the arrogance of the bad car drivers but I'm also delighted with the ones who respect my right to be on the road too. Just riding for fun has made my days off alot better.

It's not the snow or even the cold that's been hurting the therapeutic effects of my scooter, because the weather this winter has allowed me to ride a surprising amount, and I can bundle up. But the fact that the sun is already down when I leave work – combined with the chill and the fear of ice under dark conditions – takes a lot of the fun out of it.

to the OP: I enjoyed your posting very much; last year I went through 'therapy thru riding' also; I owned a 2010 Polaris Sportsman 500 atv that was parked on a friend's hunting area & he asked that it be removed; living in a townhouse I had nowhere to store it at home and would have needed to rent a storage unit (I also had recently traded my truck on an SUV which meant a trailer purchase to boot) so I traded the atv on a scooter and started riding; I found the more I rode the better I felt and it became therapy for me as I was finally dealing with the passing of my father in late 2009 (I basically helped other family members thru their grief by being a sounding board & didn't take time for myself during 2010);

fast forward to the present...several scooter purchases & trades later I have a leftover 2009 Genuine Buddy 125 and a used 2008 Buell Blast motorcycle; some people I work with do not understand the appeal and think I'm reckless...I continued riding after a knee injury that occurred while swerving to avoid getting hit by a car and can't wait until the weather warms up so I can resume riding; hopefully I can split my loyalties & time to include hunting this coming season between rides

What do you hunt? Deer? Its illegal in my state to shoot from a car, but maybe scoots are excused? Food for thought.

Very cool OP. Nice to see. I feel the same. It is amazing how some 2 wheel time clears the head and makes life a little easier to deal with.

...once it gets nice out I plan on taking my scooter to the range, following the car with the guns in it of course

to the OP:... when you're not exploring the far reaches of your hometown, may I suggest a new way to enjoy seemingly random reasons to go out for a cruise? Scooter tag. There's a scooter tag on the Buddy "scooter gallery" page, and SAN DIEGO scooter tag on Modern Vespa.com.
