My buddy 50 is running poorly atm...
Not sure if its cause I ran it without oil or because I didn't pack my exhaust well enough.

I would love to repack it and see if that solves the problem, but long story behind that.. easier just to ask you guys. Would a poorly or sub-optimal packed exhuast affect performance? it sputters and misfires at mid to upper speeds, it is sometimes finicky when starting from a stop, and my top speed is sometimes 3-5bmph than normal

This happened around the time I repacked it, give or take a 1-2 days
but also around the same time, I was running my scooter with low or no oil...
I would start my scooter and the oil light would be off, but as soon as I accelerated(from a stop), the light would come on for a second or two and then shut off... every now and then the light would come on during cruising speeds, but it never stayed on..
I probably ran it in this condition for 10-30 miles

any ideas? Thanks in advance

30 miles on a 2T with no oil is ...to say the least...very bad for a motor.

I think the exhaust is the least of your concerns. Any time an oil light comes on in any vehicle pull it over and shut it down immediately.

thanks for the input,

the light didn't remain on though.. maybe faulty sensor/connection?
also, wouldn't the warning light come on before the scooter was actually out of oil? similar to how the gas tank works.. shows you're empty but you still have the reserve tank

If I did run it for 30 miles without oil, what kind of damage am I looking at? my bike has 8k miles.. would it be best just to sell the bike as is?

Could be a bad sensor. I doubt it would make it 30 miles without oil. No oil can result in a lot of bad things,bearing wear or failure including crank big and small end, main bearings, ring wear, cylinder damage.

If your lucky its a bad sensor. Was there any oil in there when you refilled it?

Have you checked compression? What all did you do to the exhaust? Did you check jetting?

As far as the light coming on I really don't have a clue. I'll admit that I'm more of a vintage guy and I premix.

Most oil injector systems are pretty much bullet proof, but I have seen more than one Stella and P seize because the rider forgot to check the oil reservoir.

I doubt you ran without oil. The light comes on when you still have more than a quarter tank of injector oil and the full tank is worth several hundred miles.

Sounds like a packing issue or something else. The bike would probably be toast if you actually ran out of oil.

Possibly an exhaust leak?

I didn't check the oil reservoir.
not sure what you mean by exhaust leak.. a hole in a pipe or something?

my exhaust is only be held on by 2 of the 4 holes... but that couldn't be the problem.. I will try repacking my scooter... and see if that does it..

side note... is a sheet metal screw and lock washer the best way to hold the two pieces of the exhaust together?
i've tried rivets(they keep falling out), sheet metal screws w/out lock washers(they made the holes larger, then fell out), and u-nut's (don't work)
I did manage to get half of a U-nut on the inside of the exhaust by wedging it into place with some packing... and then I closed it all up and tighted it up with a screw.. it's holding up nicely.. but it is a pain in the A-- to do..

Stock uses rivets but that may not work now that the holes have been enlarged.

Exhaust leak is having exhaust escape somewhere before exiting the intended outlet.

Having those open holes where the rivets go is an exhaust leak possibly. You could spray soapy water over the holes and start the bike and see if there is any bubbling.

definitely not something with the packing..

I've had those hole open for months now and it hasn't been a problem.

I guess I'll take it into the shop and see what they say...
