My Italia is named Yoda, and has stickers on the plastic appropriately.

Zumi is the Zuma. In fact, I need to make it a point to take Zumi for a few commutes next week. I haven't ridden it much since I got Yoda.

Naming youir scooter

Post by theflash784 »

My nickname for years has been Flash and I was considering that for my scooter but TVB already has it. Since he's has it longer and even has that cool sticker on his scooter, I ha to come up with something else. My Buddy is orange so I finally decided on Blaze.

In the history of DC Comics there have been several characters named "Flash"; you are quite welcome to use the name too if you want. :)

Naming your scooter

Post by theflash784 »

Thanks TVB. After some thought, I think Blaze would be better because my Buddy is orange. If I had a red one like yours, Flash would be great. I love the sticker you have on your scooter. I was thinking of putting some flame stickers on mine when it gets warmer.

My daughters 10 and 12 years old) have named all of our vehicles. They decided the Buddy should be called Luigi. My wife pointed out that the Buddy was not Italian. The girls stuck with the name, so my Buddy is called Luigi.

I decided to call my Buddy "L'il Nuke". I was a plant operator in the Navy and couldn't think of anything else.

I have named every vehicle I have ever owned. 1964 Ford Galaxy 500 2-door fast back "Saphire" :D , 1968 Ford Custom 500 2-door "HeavyMetal" , 1969 Chevy Impala 2-door "Tuna Boat" :( , 1977 Datsun 280Z "Psycho" , 1978 Datsun 200SX "Green Hornet" :goofy: , 1991 Mitsubishi Galant "Miti" , 1990 Ford Crown Victoria "The Vic" , 2002 Mazda Protege 5 "Tweety" (current) :ninja: .

And now for the reason I chimed in my 2012 Buddy 170i "Kaze" , which means wind in Japanese.

My co-worker called mine Betsy the other day, which was my Grandmother's and a pet Cats(after Grandma) name. Name has stuck, mine is now Betsy formerly known as "scoot" or "buddy".

I'm sticking with Stella! After all, its the name she was given. It's also the name of my niece, born in the same year. Besides that, I've already had the stickers made.

My circle of family and friends have an ongoing joke about adding "i" to whatever (a la iPhone, iPad, iPod, iToaster, iCar, iShoe), so of course my scooter is now known as iScoot.

I was wondering today about changing my scoot's name to "Shirley";
as in "Surely, you didn't ride that to work?" :?
or "Surely, it's too cold to ride"
or "Surely, your gas mileage isn't that high" :P
or ... you get the idea

That reminds me of Leslie Nielsen in the 1980's movie Airplane! Here is part of the Wikipedia article about the movie:
Leslie Nielsen's line (in response to 'surely you can't be serious'), "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley," was 79th on AFI's list of the best 100 movie quotes.

I named my 2009 Buddy 125 'Bianca'...here she is parked next to my 2011 Jeep Liberty named Buster

Image

though not intentional, they make a nice 'matched' set; I chose not to replace the front Buddy 125 badge with Bianca since I have mounted a front rack, as well as a rear rack and top case

I finally decided to name my little black scooter Sophie, as in the character from Howl's Moving Castle; and when I get my dream tangerine scooter, I'll name her Satsuki, like the character from My Neighbor Totoro :3

(Now I just want to get a ton of different colored scooters and name them all after characters from Ghibli movies!)

I bought my scooter in the summer of 2008 and have never named it.
Until recently.
My scooter runs so much better in warm temps.
Just last week, with the weather getting warmer, I was riding to work and thought "it's nice to have my peppy scooter back!".

Then it hit me: Pepe
That's gotta be it.
Still, I don't walk out to the garage and greet my scooter "Hola, Pepe!".
.::I know the voices in my head aren't real, but man do they come up with some great ideas::.

Nicely done.

I noticed the warm weather bump too. Gas mileage is up (probably also because there is no need to warm it up for 10 min...) and performance is a bit more 'Pepe' indeed!

I also like your Italian flag license plate screws. I have both those and the matching Italian flag valve stem caps.
You guys do realize your scooters came from the Republic of China, right? That little decal doesn't make it European.

Not saying that European bikes are "better" or anything (Ever ride a Serveta?) but let's just not forget what we have here. : )

Well I call my Tomos Arrow "The Piglet" because it is certainly no "hog."

As for the Buddy? MOTTRO is its name, as in: Microwaveable On The Top Rack Only. It is the plastic body that caused me to name it that. Obviously metal is not microwaveable and plastic should be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher only.

I have referred to my buddy as my 'Piglet' a few times in reference to it's size, saying "some ride hogs, I ride a piglet"
I even for a time had a St Tropez blue piggie key fob for a short time.....

i had a tough time coming up with a name for mine, but thought the color was rather shrek-like. so, i've named her Fiona. then, just playing around, i looked it up on the urban dictionary website and it is very appropriate:

- A very beautifull lady who never lies. Many girls wish they could be like her, and guys wish they could date her. Often the coolest person in paradise. Her mother was a hippy

- A very sassy young lady. People try to copy her, but do not succeed for the the most part. She's the best at what she does; being sassy.

(i especially like that her mother was a hippy!!)

The European scooter Illusion

Post by Len »

illnoise wrote:Yeah, sorry, didn't mean to start a war or anything, I just thought it was sort of funny that we're all actually sort of buying into the facade that they're european scooters.
What is a European Scooter? Oh You mean like the Vespa? The REAL ITALIAN Scooter. The Vespa that during its hayday in the 70s and 80s was actually made by
1) PGO in Tiawan
2) LML in India
3) Bajaj in India

IF I had a Stella that is made by the same factory as the ORIGINAL VESPA PX200, with the same design, on the same equipment, by the same people using the same materials- would it not be the SAME?

I think that the Stella is just as Italian as the Vespa.
The Buddy is just as Italian or European as the Vespa

They are all a branch on one family tree. Sure there are differences but they are all related by birth.

It is funny, isn't it?

Though those companies did build Vespas, they were (at the time) strictly for those markets—Asia and India. Until Bajaj started selling in the US, these were all very rare here.

Until a few years ago, all the Vespas sold in the US were built in Italy. They then started manufacturing 125/150cc engines (and full Piaggio scooters) in China, then assembling in Italy. Now, I think all of the LXs are built there.
IF I had a Stella that is made by the same factory as the ORIGINAL VESPA PX200, with the same design, on the same equipment, by the same people using the same materials- would it not be the SAME?

I think that the Stella is just as Italian as the Vespa.
The Asian and Indian versions weren't made by the same people using the same materials, though. They were made by PGO, Baja and LML often using lesser materials and lower quality standards. There are differences between the PGO, Bajaj and LML Vespas and the Italian ones and many more differences between a Stella and an Italian PX. They're not equivalent. And a Bajaj is a far cry from it.

There's obviously a shared lineage with the Stella and Vespa P-series, though. It's a direct descendant. The Buddy, though—distant cousin many time removed at best. It's like saying I'm related to an Inuit because humanity has common origins.
The Buddy is just as Italian or European as the Vespa
A Taiwanese design using a variant of a Japanese-designed engine?

Trying to make a connection between the Buddy and Vespas is taking it far too seriously. People can call them what they want, but I think the European names are given in the same spirit as naming the International models and so on. A little tongue in cheek, with a slight nod to scootering heritage.

I was calling by Buddy, Jacques. But lately I have been spending so much time with him, that my husband and I have been calling him Sancho.
