Sadly I come with bad news today

I work for a nursing home (corporate office), and you just described the aspects of our services that I am not eager to experience as a customer.LunaP wrote:But I'm looking forward to small things... a house that's familiar to me, better food, a real bed, not being woken up at any hour of the morning to take meds, not being asked when my last bowel movement was
, etc.

Oh, there's plenty of crappy stuff I didn't complain about because it would've been TMI, or just overkillTVB wrote:I work for a nursing home (corporate office), and you just described the aspects of our services that I am not eager to experience as a customer.LunaP wrote:But I'm looking forward to small things... a house that's familiar to me, better food, a real bed, not being woken up at any hour of the morning to take meds, not being asked when my last bowel movement was

It's definitely a big life trial. As my Dad so aptly put it yesterday, "Life definitely handed you a big 'ol ball of shit".Swordsman wrote:Holy jeez! That's got to be the scariest thing to hear, or to have happen! SO glad it wasn't worse.![]()

In the end, worse could have happened and that's what I have to force myself to think when I have bad days and feel depressed and start feeling really sorry for myself, or hurt SUPER bad. Like yesterday, it rained cats and dogs and no matter how much of my pain meds I took I ached in my bones where the metal rod is, so I suppose that's going to continue to happen when the weather changes

Thank you everybody. I know I've said it before a hojillion times, but it really does help to hear encouraging things from everybody.
Life does that to you sometimes. I'll spare you all the details, but it's happened to me (in one way or another) three times in the past 25 years. Just spend a little time grieving the future that's no longer going to happen, then get started on building a different one with all the good things in your life that are still there.LunaP wrote:And because it makes several things about my future uncertain, just when they were starting to fall into place.

Thank you again everyone for all the support you have given us.
Luna is finally getting discharged from the outpatient rehab center today and she will be staying at her parents place.
She will still have to go into the hospital for checkups and I believe a nurse will be visiting her to help changing the dressings, but it's good to finally have her out of the hospital, even if she's still unable to move about on her own.
Also we have finally managed to set up an online widget to allow those who wish to donate to do so, any donation will be of great help for her to deal with bills while the long insurance process unfolds.

Just read through this whole thread, I'm really glad to hear you're doing okay and getting out of the hospital.
I wish you a quick recovery, and hope for you to get on your feet again soon.

It should become less painful with time, it may not ever go away but you should be "okay" after a couple of months of healing. I have gotten so used to that sort of pain in my right arm/wrist/hand (there's a plate and a couple little screws in there somewhere) and my knees and ankles (old surgeries) that I don't notice it as much anymore, but I know when the forecast says rain or snow that I need to take some extra Aleve that morning!LunaP wrote:Like yesterday, it rained cats and dogs and no matter how much of my pain meds I took I ached in my bones where the metal rod is, so I suppose that's going to continue to happen when the weather changes
Hope all is going well and that you're out and about soon! Happy healing!

It's been a while. I'm feeling somewhat decent tonight, so I thought to give you guys an update.
I've been at home since earlier this month, and I've adjusted but my body hasn't. Sleeping sucks- we fit me in a rather (more than) firm twin bed in my sisters' computer room, used to be my room- so the room isn't always mine. I've had a lot of GI problems.
I wish that the rest of my body would stop giving me a hard time, it'd be nice if I only had to worry about my leg.
Speaking of which- I had a orthopedic appointment, and finally saw xrays. My mum and I were shocked to see that I had a good few inches simply missing from my fibula (the thinner, smaller bone that runs from the knee to ankle). The doctor said that I came in to the ER like that, that part of my bone's out on the street somewhere
but allegedly that bone is only responsible for 5 or 6% of weight bearing. I just kinda don't like the idea of two bone ends hanging out in the middle of my leg...
He said my collarbone looked like it was starting to heal well. It doesn't hurt me much anymore, just whatever tore or chipped in my shoulder joint. Mostly because I like to sleep on my sides, I think.
My lawyer sent me a letter a few weeks ago, saying that I should basically disappear from the internet.. deactivate my FB account and stuff. I haven't done that but I double checked all my privacy settings, made sure my close friends know not too talk much about my progress on there, and I mostly lurk.
I have no idea how serious the letter was- like if it was just a precautionary paranoid form letter they send all their clients, or what. But unfortunately I must err on the side of caution and not be quite so forthcoming with my progress online- allegedly the 'other guys' will find a way to twist something I say on a public forum around onto me.
This is frustrating to me because you all have been so kind to me, and I want to share everything I can... I feel like it's the least I can do, I guess.

...and I thought I was a night owl. I'm on the west coast, and it's about 1am, which makes it 4am if you are on the east coast.
I am so sorry to hear about your continuing pain and issues. I'm sure it's going to be a long road to recovery and you won't want to even think about settling until way past when you think you are finally okay, as things may still surface that are related, be they chiropractic or what ever. Sounds like your lawyer is giving you good advice about not talking too much on line, as you just never know what might be twisted and/or taken out of context these days.
Best wishes, and try to keep your spirits up. There's a lot of us here on the forum pulling for you.

I just came across this thread. I had no idea you were going through all this LunaP. Hang in there. Your lawyer is giving you good advice. You need to lay low until your case is settled.
Just know how lucky you are. My mother wasn't so lucky last year. She was in a car at 7am when a kid that had been partying all night for new years drove across the road, over a median, and into oncoming traffic. His car stopped in a head-on collision with the car my mother was riding in.
She lived for a month in the ICU before succumbing to her injuries. It was long before her time. She was young at heart, vibrant, sharp, and healthy.
No matter how bad a hand you think you were dealt, you're still here and have a long and productive life to live. Life is precious. Count your blessings. Take nothing for granted.
You probably have a hard row ahead of you. But just stop every once and awhile and appreciate what you have. Look around at your friends and family and think how lucky you are. Stop and smell the roses when things get you down. Sit in the warm sun with a cup of coffee and be alive.
Take care and get well soon.

It's a standard precaution, much like advising a client who's the subject of a criminal investigation not to talk to the police, because it can't do their case any good, and there's always a chance it could harm it. I'd take the suggestion fairly seriously.LunaP wrote:I have no idea how serious the letter was- like if it was just a precautionary paranoid form letter they send all their clients, or what. I agree. I believe we've hidden or removed threads before so as to not interfere with an accident victim's legal process. You've got a good amount of info in this thread alone. Your attorney wants to be able to control the flow of information to the other side and, to that end, you want to help him or her as much as possible.TVB wrote:... If you'd like this thread to disappear, PM Eric and see if he's agreeable to it.
As for the other stuff- It's certainly understandable that there will be many side effects and complications from an injury this serious. Hoping you continue to stay strong through it all!!

Correct. Anything you've done online could potentially interfere with your case.
In the old days, insurance companies used to send a photographer to show people with alleged back problems going out and dancing. Nowadays, anything you do online....status updates, photos, whatever, are a risk.
It's not just insurance companies anymore; the entire legal system does this now. I know for a fact that Social Security/unemployment and disability does. My fiance works for a law firm, and they had a client basically screw themselves over due to facebook posts. Sidenote: it's interesting how Facebook is being incorporated into legal rulings...
Most of the time, the info is rather benign, much like this tragic thread is. But legal counsel will generally recommend against saying/sharing anything, just in case. Always better to say less than too much, especially in the current online medium where everything might stick around.
Best of luck in everything, Luna.

I thought about writing up something to post in the crash thread, officially. I haven't because of the aforementioned admonishments.
Thinking through it, I can easily see how much worse it could have been. I crashed into the front passenger wheel well of a small SUV... if I hadn't hit exactly there, I could have ended up under a moving vehicle. I could have just creamed myself like a cartoon character and broken my neck. Too many things worse than this.
Thank you, both for your good vibes and for the heads up- dually noted.jmazza wrote: I agree. The problem is that Google caches a snapshot of the thread, so even if we hide or delete it, it's still possible to view the cached copy. This thread is already in cache up to a very recent point. See below. Sorry...
