My Buddy was stolen last night !!!!!! [UPDATE: FOUND]

Post by jasondavis48108 »

UPDATE: i FOUND THE SCOOTER IN A LOCAL PARK

I'm so freaking pissed right now. yesterday was my birthday and what did I get, my damn scooter got stolen. If you live in or near ann arbor please keep a look out for for a green and balck Buddy 50 with front and rear rack and cowl gards. Unless they change it it will be easy to spot since they weren't sold in this color combo. It was stolen between 11:30pm-7:30am on march 23rd/24th. It was stolen from University Townhouses in Ann Arbor near the corner of packard and platt.

thanks, I'm still a bit in shock, I've had them parked in that same spot right outside my door for 4 years without issue. Worst birthday present ever :(

sry man, such a violation. cool scoot, too. 4 years and no problem and gone in 60 seconds. just takes one punk one time. frustrates me because i would think a stolen scooter isn't worth much to a thief unless a prolific pro thief

w/e the case hope you get it back as it was when it left

Bum deal :x . Sorry to hear, especially on your B-day. I hope the police find it soon. You might want to keep an eye out on places where they might be able to sell your scoot. My brother got his motorcycle stolen before and the guy tried to sell in the paper a week later.

i FOUND THE SCOOTER!!!!!

I found the scooter in the woods of a local park. The steering lock is busted so I'll have to have that fixed. They also ripped off the gen-U-bin I think they thought the wires where in there. It looks like they tried to get into the front cover but I have a front rack so they couldn't do it without tools.

My buddy was stolen last night

Post by theflash784 »

Sorry to hear that your birthday was ruined. I am glad you found your scooter and hope you can get it fixed up and running again. Did you make a stolen report? I don't know how much rain you had in your area last night but it might be worth having it checked for fingerprints. With all that damage- they probably were stupid enough to leave some.

Damn! Glad you got the fella back, and in relatively good condition.

Not quite the same thing, but I just had a little table and chair stolen from my front porch, also after years of it sitting out there, and it's unsettling to have that sense of security violated.

It sure is TVB. I know I should feel much better having found it in at least running condition but I can't help feeling violated and less safe in my own neighborhood. I am glad that I have it back though and that I can start the process of getting it back to it's pre-stolen condition.

So glad you found it... having it back in pretty much one piece is a good outcome! As an added bonus, no satisfaction for those stupid thieves.

Happy (belated) Birthday! Make a do-over of it now that it's turned out for the best.

Glad you found him! Hopefully it's not too pricey to fix (or insurance covers it...)

thanks everybody. It shouldn't be too expensive to fix, I have a $250 deducible so regardless it won't cost me more than that. I just have to find a good Genuine dealer around here as Scoot Around Town is no longer open. Any folks have suggestions for a Genuine dealer with good mechanics around Ann Arbor?

Its not close to you but Blackbeard Power Sports in Clinton Twp is really good. Dave is the owner and his mechanic is good. They are on Groesbeck just south of Metro Pkwy (16 Mile) That's where I got my Buddy and had my service work done.

I was looking at the Genuine website and it looks like Blackbeard is the closest Genuine dealer to me so I'm glad to hear they are good. If I can't fix/replace the steering column lock myself then I'll probably just have the scooter towed there and have to figure out a way to get it back home.

I'd take a week off and ride it home by way of Mackinac, but that's just me. :)

Glad you found it!. Now lock it up with something SOLID...They know where it is..and I hate to say this...but you need to be prepared for them to come back. They stole it once.

With gas prices going up and weather getting nicer in some areas there may be an increase in "interest " towards scooters. Mine was almost stolen when I first got it. Xena saved the day. Since that time I chain the bike to my front step where I can hear if someone ties to mess with it at night.

I'll have to wait till May 4th for any scooter trips TVB (end of the semester) although I don't think I'll be taking it over the Macinak bridge any time soon

I normally do keep it locked but I had given my disc lock to my wife for her GrandVista and hadn't picked up a new lock for the buddy yet, BIG MISTAKE. I now have an alarm U-Lock with both an alarm on the U-Lock and a pager that has an alarm that goes off if the lock is moved or cut. I keep the pager with me in the bedroom when I go to sleep. I also ordered two Xena disc alarmlocks for the sh150 and the GrandVista. They currently have regular disc locks but I'll feel better with the alarm locks for sure.

So glad you got it back. Every victim of theft should be so lucky! How on earth did you happen to see it in the woods of park?? Was it just random luck? Or did you have a hunch? Incredibly fortunate either way!

Dang, sorry I didn't see this until it was too late (but glad that too late means you have the bike back).

Do you have a truck with a trailer hitch? Or a friend with one? You can rent a motorcycle trailer from UHaul for around $20, vs paying big bucks to have it towed some other way.

Sorry to hear this happened to you...I hope you can get it fixed reasonably inexpensively.

I've lived in my neighborhood all my life. The park I found it in was the park you always went to as a kid when your bike got stolen. It is a fairly notorious stolen property dumping ground. Luckily they only rolled it about 20ft into the woods so it was faily easy to spot from the walking path.

I just found out that even though I have good insurance with roadside assistance that covers towing that in this situation roadside assitsance does not cover the to to the shop :( I have a friend with a big truck so I think I'm gonna have to talk to him and see if he will help me get it to Blackbeard.

Very pleased that you got it back. Very disappointed in our fellow humans about the theft in the first place. Dave Corneille at Blackbeard is a good guy, if a little rough around the edges (aren't we all). Let me know if I can help.

I've heard tell of folks who roll their bike out onto the street (maybe a block away for good measure), then just do something simple like disconnect the battery, prior to calling for a tow to the shop. Might look a little suspicious after your call, though...

Grrr. Genuine's Roadside assistance had to be bitched at and talked into towing Sailor Scoot from the city impound lot (where it was automatically taken from the scene) to the shop to be housed, after my accident. For some reason they didn't think it was their problem anymore since it had been towed once already or something... it was one of the more idiotic things we'd heard in a while.

I hope you stop running into hurdles and your friend is able to help you!

You were quite fortunate getting it back in one piece. Mine (a Kymco Super 8 150) was totally trashed when the police found it a mile from my home. It was a total loss ( I would post photos if I knew how, I am a computer illiterate). Ended up getting a Buddy 125 in its place, so all was not lost. It's sitting on my back porch where I and my faithful Cocker Spaniel can keep an eye on it.
