Hi all, is this piece on the pipe important other than to protect legs or other parts from getting burned? I'm going to have some parts coated and wondered if it is safe to ride the scoot without this piece in place . . .
That piece on the exhaust does not prevent burns. My wife got a pretty sizable one when she tried to get off on that side. However it may be a lot cooler then rest of the pipe and I don't think it would do any damage to ride without it.
The part on the exhaust is a heat shield, and aside from making the hot pipe a bit more dangerous from being exposed, it's harmless to ride without it.
The silver emblem is removed by first removing the whole front shield. Start with the obvious screw in the front middle, then there are screws coming from the back, on either side on top. I don't remember exactly how the silver piece is attached, but it should be clear once you have the front shield off.
My 'that piece' on my pipe is black plastic, it just fell off once and I had a heck of a time finding replacement grommets to put it back on.
I like the look of the chrome looking one, Hmmmm........
Aging is mandatory, growing up is optional.
My kids call me 'crazy', I prefer 'Eccentric'.

You know . . . upon further thought I'm going to leave it chrome. I would prefer it to be Ti blue color or even black, but the chrome does stand out and I'm all about safety first. It helps my kids to recognize that part is there which keeps them away. If it blended in . . . it would shout I"M HOT. . . or at least I'm here!

Yeah, the 150s have a different exhaust than the 125s, with an all-black plastic shield.
