Difference between tangerine orange/sunset orange?

Post by jeremydouglass »

Hi,
Getting set to order my Buddy 125. I have my heart set on orange but seem to see two different shades out there: sunset and tangerine. I definitely prefer the sunset from what pictures I've seen online but it seems tangerine is the only available orange on the Genuine site. Can anyone clear this up for me? I've seen sunset panels on various parts lists, but what's odd to me is on nearly every parts site I've visited i don't see any tangerine panels available. Only the sunsets. But i have definitely seen what appears to be two different shades of orange.

Also, I saw a beautiful "sunset" orange Buddy on a Flickr page that had no black under the seat. It was actually a brown seat with orange under the seat and what was either an orange or light brown floorboard. Was this likely a custom job? Because on Genuine's site it seems no matter what color Buddy you choose, you're getting a black seat and black floor.

Can custom seat color/floor color be ordered by the dealer? Or would i need to purchase custom panels and an additional seat?

the flavors are completely different

the tangerine taste more like orange and the sunset more like a Piña colada

Think it was the 2006-7 models

I do remember the 2006-7 Orange/Tangerine Buddys were the ones that were all 'orange' with a tan seat...

Sunset is why orange is orange! and tangerine is just orange.

I'm not sure about the two different hues of orange, but the no-black variation was on the early models; the current ones include a combination of black and color plastics.

Exactly, the sunset orange was a somewhat darker color trimmed in tan that was available in '06 and '07. The newer tangerine orange has been available '08 and beyond. It is trimmed in black.

Is it still possible to get the 06 & 07 buddy models? I would hate to go through the added expense of replacing all the black panels and seat if I can still get an earlier model.

You can still order the panels and change them out. However, the pies since the '06 headlights were smaller than with later models. I found out from personal experience.

I swapped the original St Tropez blue panels for the Sunset Orange when I created Iron Buddy

I doubt you'll find a scooter from before '09 unless it's used. There was a spike in demand for scooters in '08 (gas prices going up) and most Genuine dealers' inventory got cleaned out. There are '09s sitting around because dealers stocked up anticipating another year of good sales, but then the stock market tanked and people stopped buying things.

The good news is that if you can't find the color panels you want available to order, it's not terribly difficult to remove the panels and paint them all whatever color you want.
