Only fools ever think they have 'enough' experience. You will ALWAYS be learning something new on the road. However, it is definitely good you have ridden on two wheels before. We've heard horror stories of people who never learned to ride on or balance a bicycle as a kid, try to take the MSF course for example and didn't understand why they were having so much trouble.

Speaking of the MSF course, if you have money saved up already, setting aside the 160 or so dollars for the MSF course IS A FANTASTIC IDEA. It's a weekend, everybody says it's fun, and idk about Cali (somebody else will chime in) but in a lot of states if you successfully pass the MSF course, you can walk right into the DMV and get your MC DL classification without having to take any of the state/DMV's stuff (as in, the state regards the MSF course as an acceptable substitute to the testing and crap).

You DO need to be worried about your license, though... you said you wanted to be riding really badly- the scoots you are looking at REQUIRE a MC license, or at least a learner's, to be riding around on. Even if you were to come home with a scoot today, you wouldn't (legally) be able to ride it around.

And yeah... lots of us take long trips on our scoots! Even if they are 125's- that just means you have to stay off the highway 8) Lokky and I rode his Stella from here to Baltimore and back for a weekend trip last summer- 6.5 hours each way! :D

I bought a 2009 buddy 125 with 3100 miles, light scrape on both sides(not noticeable) for $1000. I bought a not running 2007 buddy 50(needed carb) with 1000 miles for $300. I looked long and hard at a mint 2009 stella with accessories and 900 miles for $2500(there was wiggle room in the price) I couldn't care less about a warranty. Paying close to retail for a bike with 500 DEMO miles seems off. I always buy the deal but I won 't buy pink or purple.

I am giving this thread a little bump for the curious among us. Maybe you posted here?

Seem some folks come and go with close calls and near misses, and just disappear. Where is kelly now and is she scooting? And on what, and how much did she pay for it? All this, left dangling by a thread.

Got mine, a brand new leftover 2009 in San Jose at the aforementioned dealership off of San Carlos and Bascom Avenue (Blue, not offered anymore in that color, I believe) for a shade under $3k OTD last May. So I think this a bit steep for a used scoot. With gas prices going through the roof, all used scoots may exact a premium price as the new models run out. Just my 2 cents.
