Bar end signals

For some reason I've been on a mission to get rid of my DOT turn signals somehow. At first I looked for mirrors that incorperated the signal but I have not found anything that I liked. Now I wonder if it is possible to install bar end turn signals like these on the buddy and if so how hard would it be to do the wiring?

I think you could get away with just removing the DOT signals and using the deadlights. Looking at all of the other scooters and motorcycles at work, there are quite a few that have turn signals mounted in ways that are similar to the Buddy deadlights. In particular, there's one really nice Vespa with the headlight down on top of the front fender and turn signals on the front fairing. I'm certain it doesn't meet DOT requirements, but I don't think the cops are actually looking for that at all.

Ease of installation with those is tricky to answer. A simple task for some, but not for others. Based on your question, I assume you aren't very familar with this type of project.

I have not done these myself but I would assume all you need to do is:
Disconnect and remove DOT bulbs
Cut or modify the ends of your hand grips
Run wire from new signals to DOT wires
Connect wires (re-use the DOT connectors if possible)
Secure bar end signals
Install a Univesal Flasher Relay to correct the flash rate
Double check connections and secure wires in a way that they don't rub when you turn your handlebars

I say go for it. Plenty of people here can answer questions if you get stuck and don't know how to proceed.

It seems to me you'd have to drill a hole in your handlebars to run the wire. I would expect that to weaken the strength of the handlebars. I'm not sure I'd want to weaken them. Also, if you drop the scooter or scrape against something, kiss those bar-end lights goodbye. You'll have to replace them after an incident like that.

That doesn't sound too bad. I watched a video of someone installing a different type of bar end signals on a Ducati, and it seemed simple enough, but I have never opened the head peice before and don't know what to expect there for the wiring. I was also unsure about the grips since the stock grips cover the ends of the bars. However people on this forum have installed bar end mirrors so that should be too hard to figure out. Thanks for your help guy.

those look sweet. wouldn't be to hard to do. when you cut a hole in the bars make sure to tape round the wires that go through the hole really well or put a grommet in it. the wires will rub the wires and cause problems down the road.

'cause they're _dead_ when you get the bike from the dealer.

The DOT decided that they were too close together to act as turn signals, thus the 'DOT' blinkers hanging from the bars. Genuine or PGO disconnects the originals, thus, dead.
