Can you buy replacement rear rack bolts?

Post by michelle_7728 »

I have two rear racks I swap out as needed. One rack has my wooden platform secured to it (for my Costco trips, pizza runs, etc), and one has a wooden platform with a Coocase base attached to it. It's much easier to swap out the rear rack than to unscrew all the connectors holding the different platforms to the racks. I've had both racks for a couple of years.

Here's my dilemma. Somewhere along the way I have misplaced the bolts for one of the racks, and now that I have two Buddys again, and want to mount one rear rack to each scooter I can't find the bolts that came with it to do that (the stock bolts are too short).

Sure, I could go to the hardware store and maybe find some bolts that are long enough, but the bolts that come with the black rack are black to match and have that particular head on them that fits well and barely brushes the seat when it's opened/closed...and use an allen wrench so are a "little" more secure.

Any one have any idea whether I can order a set of rear rack bolts so I can have the OEM ones other than buying another rear rack? :?:

Well, should anyone else be wondering (perhaps someone has stripped the head of one of their bolts using the wrong allen wrench, or who knows what), I stopped by Tacoma Screw earlier today and they had the same bolts...just 5mm shorter or 5 mm longer. I tried the 5mm shorter bolts and they seem to have plenty of thread to do the trick, but I'll probably pick up the 5mm longer ones as well and see how they work.

I think the shorter ones were like .69 each.

Again, these are the bolts you would need for the aftermarket rear rack.

Are you still trying to get the rack's bolts or are you content with what you picked up? Did tacoma have them with an allen head or did you get hex heads?

If you are still looking for the specific bolts you may wanna ask your dealership, they may have some wrecked out buddy in the back from which to pull the bolts. Otherwise try hitting up the website selling them, chances are that they only get them bundled together with the rack but they may have some extra laying around from mixed up orders or defective racks.

Ah, both are good suggestions, but I think I'm good now. :)

My dealership went out of service, but Genuine (or even Scooterworks) might have had some lying around...you never know.
