My manual states that the filter should be changed every 5000k. However, it also states that the oil should be changed every 1000k (other than after the first 200 miles).
How do I clean the oil filter? Do they mean to just empty it out and put it back on?
Also, am I supposed to change it on the first oil change (200 miles), and then clean it thereafter? Or clean it until 5000k?
Thanks!

Actually, the service manual does say to change the filter every 5,000km and the oil every 1,000km. So you could, in theory get away with that. But filters are cheap, so you might as well change it out while you've got the oil drained.PeteH wrote:Read closely. You might be reading about cleaning the AIR filter, which according to some instructions uses a little oil in the rejuvenation process.

The intervals in the manuals aren't quite right much of the time.pdxrita wrote:Actually, the service manual does say to change the filter every 5,000km and the oil every 1,000km. When you change your oil, you need to drain the filter anyways. Might as well put a clean one on there!
