I've washed my scooter with a bucket and hose numerous times and have never taken any special precautions. I figure if it's safe to take it in the rain, it's safe to hose it down. I guess from that perspective, try keeping your hose spray confined to areas that rain, road spray, and puddle splashes might naturally hit and you'll have no problems.
DO NOT POWER WASH YOUR SCOOT!
a bucket and soap and a hose is just fine, if you use a power sprayer you have a better chance of blasting water where it doesn't need to be.
"Hey You, yeah, all you'se thoughts, specially you, creepy wierd one in the corner, Screw you guys, I'm going for a ride..."
i guess it depends on how clean you want the scooter to be. i've always just wiped down the scooter with a damp rag and a bucket of water, so most of the visible parts are clean, but the engine area is pretty dusty... is that bad?

I've taken this advice one step further: I just let the rain, road spray, and puddle splashes take care of cleaning my scoot.

While on the subject, how does one keep things dry during the wash such as the seat?
I plan on closing a plastic bag on the seat, similar to what I've seen people do with their bicycle seats.
Honestly, thats not necessary. Just dry it off good afterwards and youre good.
This - yes. Your scooter is designed to be used outdoors, in conditions that sometimes include water. Your seat won't absorb water. Underneath the cover, there's a plastic liner. I know this because I've taken mine apart. Don't overthink this. Get out the hose, bucket, sponge and soap and have at it. You really won't damage anything unless you do something stupid like try to hose out the inside of your exhaust pipe.
No lemon Pledge or Endust on the seat... It has silicone in it and it will make it VERY slick. I remember accidentally getting some on a couple of my hardwood steps and it almost turned deadly ... My dog Ais still traumatized.
