Finished/Passed my MSF! (40 degrees and pouring rain)

Post by AlleyOops »

1st lesson learned... if I need to wear my snowboarding gear to go outside, its not a good day for riding.

The written test was easy, got a 100%. The riding test, I totally choked on "the box". Did it perfect while practicing, but during the actual "test" I went way out of the box, put my foot down, and ended up doing two left turns somehow. I thought for sure they were going to fail me... I was thisclose to bursting into tears afterwards. I would have been a mess had they failed me.

Oh, and we are supposed to get SNOW tonight/tomorrow... so I guess I don't need to rush down to the DMV to get my license, sigh. I won't have my coat until Tues or Wed anyways, so its probably better I wait for my gear.

I'm SO glad I decided to take the course, I learned a TON and am making my fiance take the course if he wants to ride my scooter :D

Right on! Good for you! I missed 1 on my written portion and I too had trouble with the box. I went out of it but I didn't put my foot down at any time. Anyways, Well done

Congrats! Well done.

It was pouring rain the day I took my field test, but I had my frogg toggs (highly recommend) on & it stopped raining just before we tested.

It would be nice if it/MSF was setup once you paid and passed, you would be entitled to a refresher course every two years free of charge.

Congratulations! I didn't do well with the box either but I try to avoid riding in boxes when I am out anyway!

Don't you dare say the "S" word! They're saying we might get some tomorrow night... or we won't.... they aren't sure yet. Of course, they said it was going to rain all day today, and it hasn't rained at all and the chance for rain is only going up to 30% by midnight. Lame-os.

Ally - congrats! Did you take the course & test on a scooter or motorcycle? My gf is taking the class in a few weeks & requested the scooter.

The entire class (12 of us) were all on scooters :) I got to ride a 50cc Vino, which funnily enough was what I originally wanted to get when I was looking at scooters. After riding it, I like the look of the buddy better... although the low seat on the Vino was really nice (Im 5'0 tall). Didn't help that it stalled every couple min if I wasn't actually riding it.

Congrats!!

When I passed mine it was high 80's and sunny out here in Santa , which was bad because they require you to wear long sleeves/pants and boots so we were all sweating like mad!

But great experience, learned a lot.

My gf takes her msf class in 3 weeks! I'm trying to teach her the msf drills ahead of time on a little Vino 125 since she's real nervous because shes the least coordinated person ever

Well hopefully she does well. Lack of coordination and riding a bike can be strange bedfellows, but not unheard of.

It's nice she is doing it, yes? So you two can ride together, maybe? If riding is for her. I guess she will find out.

Boy, I am glad I am past that whole beginners process of "do I really want to do this? I must be CRAZY!"

It would be cool if we can do scooter rallies and such together - her on her own scoot. If she doesn't want to ride her own scoot then at least she'll have a heightened sense of awareness and more knowledge of being a good passenger. When I rode a motorcycle a long time ago we always said "to be a good passenger you have to be a good rider."

Plus, on long trips she can share the driver duties while I photograph tour-de-france-photographer-style hanging off the scoot to get good pics of things :)
