bad strut? is it possible?....

bad strut? is it possible?....
So buddy universe I believe my buddy italia has a bad strut. It has 8400 miles and has been riding kinda wierd. When its cold it doesn't give much, and it seems its not as smooth a ride as in the past. What to do? It also shifts really hard at about 5mph would a gear oil change help that?
