You have to go into BIOS on bootup and change the boot order to recognize a bootable-USB device before anything else. Make sense?

I'm not sure I understand exactly what your issue is or what you're trying to do. Can you provide more information? (I realize you might be typing on a phone or something, so I understand that might be difficult)

I accidentally compressed hard drive to "save space". It is a netbook so there is no way to boot from CD unless I made bootable USB flash drive with Win start up files. It turned out my problem was not doing it incorrectly but rather having bad eyesight. I was hitting wrong keys thinking they were function keys Once I saw what was happening - I got into Boot without any issues. Very embarrassing

Ah, yes. Believe me, I understand about the eyesight. It's getting harder and harder to do any sort of close up work without my reading glasses. It sounds like you've got it under control. I give you techie points for figuring out the bootable USB thing.

Thanx, it was not my idea though. There is a lot of stuff on the Internet, notably a proggie that transfers Win boot.ini and other needed MBR files in to the thumb drive. I am so rusty with this stuff. It has been years since I messed with this type of repair and technology sure did change.
