Buddy 150 Surging and Lurching at 50+ MPH

Post by adorkable8605 »

I've been having this issue where my scooter will surge/lurch when I travel over 50ish mph. It will completely lose acceleration and I'll have to pull over and re-start it. To make matters worse it won't start up right away again unless the center stand is up and the tire isn't on the ground.

My buddy has no issues at 40 mph, but it stinks limiting my speed and I'm just looking for some ideas before I bring it in on Tuesday...

A simple shot in the dark, but one I've seen many times......make sure the battery cables are tight.
Just the slightlest looseness at a certain RPM will do as you describe.

How in the world do you start it up with the center stand up and the (or a) tire off the ground?

Check your plug

Sounds like you might have a problem with your spark plug. I put a Prima exhaust on my 125 without jetting the carb or doind an airbox mod. ( The dealer told me I didn't have to, wrong). It ran really lean as a result and it smoked the plug. I put a bigger jet in it and took out the air box restricter and it runs great now. But before i did the mods it did the same thing your scoot is doing. I would take out the spark plug and check it out. If it's grey/white, that is bad. Have you done anything to your scoot?

The center stand thing often suggests an electrical problem. Check the wiring harness. Pull the pet carrier out and make sure no wires are being pinched or squeezed.

It's a 2009 150 with almost 15000 miles on it...I've been doing my own oil changes with some help from a friend who's been riding FOREVER...And I bring it in for everything else when indicated by the manual...

At this point, I'm pretty sure it's either the spark plug or a clogged fuel line...I'm checking wiring and some other things...
