Registering a Genuine Buddy in NJ
I bought a Buddy Psycho from my brother-in-law with only 10 miles on it for a great deal. He bought it in Philadelphia, PA but I am registering it in New Jersey.
When I took the title to the DMV they couldn't find Genuine in their approve motorcycle lists and they sent me on my way unregistered.
They gave me the number to the DMV headquarters and they couldn't find it either and considered it unrecognized.
I asked them to look under PGO with no luck either.
So I called Philadelphia Scooters who informed me that Genuine's real company name is Motive Power industry Co, LTD.
Thought that odd but they were able to register it under that name.

Interesting! It looks like PGO is actually a brand of Motive Power Industry: http://www.alibaba.com/member/tw104333854/aboutus.html
So then Genuine is what, a brand of a brand?

Genuine is a wholly independent and separate company from PGO, which is part of Motive Power.
PGO builds the scooters. Genuine imports, distributes and markets them in the US. Genuine has also influenced upgrades to the models, changes, etc. over the years.
The Stella is built by LML, Lohia Motors. Similar deal' Genuine imports and distributes in the US, Canada and elsewhere.

Okay, that is the relationship of Genuine to its overseas manufacturers, now back to NJ. Each imported scooter or motorcycle is registered at a state DMV based on the manufacturers statement of origin. The MSO for my Buddy said nothing about Motive Power Industry. Is NJ being creative or do the MSOs now state Motive Power?

Look under motive power. In red it says DNA genuine.
Nj shouldn't give you a problem. That list goes by vin.

That's the list they kept looking on but couldn't find "dba Genuine". I guess they couldn't search PDFs they were just searching alphabetically and who would think to look for GENUINE under M. (By the way...DBA stands for Doing Business As).
I didn't have this list when I was at the DMV not did I ever dream I'd need it. And they don't show it to you. I assumed they would know what that scooter was when I brought the title there.
I posted this to help the next guy trying to figure this out. It's easy for you to point it out after searching for the info as it was or me. You act like I should have known this list even existed before walking in to the DMV.

It seems like there's a lot of confusion around all of this. My Italia was registered as a Genuine. When I registered my new Buddy 125, they put it in as a PGO.Dooglas wrote:Okay, that is the relationship of Genuine to its overseas manufacturers, now back to NJ.
