Some of you might remember I made an earlier thread about my buddy 170 not being as fast as ky wifes, and I thought maybe it needed to break in...
Well turns out I went to change the plug at 950 miles and noticed it wasn't all the way in...
I tried to tighten it but it was already tight. So I brought it to ky dealer for inspection... They pulled the plug and 4 threads came with it, it was cross threaded from the factory and wasn't all the way in which is prob why my bike wasn't at full power.
They are ordering me a brand new cylinder head to be replaced under warranty along with my new plug that I never got a chance to put in... And then they gave me a ride home since I was stranded
So no buddy for a few weeks but I'm a customer of genuine and to powersports for life now after they didn't try to hassel me and somehow pin it on me.
They just recognized a problem and are taking care of it.
I'm sure its just a mistake, they probably install them with an air gun and the threads weren't aligned when they hit it or something. It ran fine which is why no one prob noticed it just was underpowered when compared side by side to ky wifes scooter
I'm glad the issue is being taken care of, but do they really need a few weeks just to get and install a new top end? It shouldn't take them more than a few days to source the part and then the labor to replace it is something anybody could do in their backyard.
Regardless when you get your new top end remember that you will need to break it in as if the scoot was newly purchased.
Lokky you have a good point but being as this is a warranty issue the top end has to come from genuine and they may not have it in stock. My dealer told me they can do the labor in an hour once they get parts.
I asked if I could just pay for all the parts and labor and genuine reimburse me when they recieve the old head and conclude warranty stuff but they don't roll that way.
Still I'm being covered so I'm happy.
As far as rebreaking in, the top end new valvetrain is pretty much broken in after about an hour, the main break in on engines is the piston and piston ring seating which is on the bottom end and still had 950 miles on it.
I'll take it easy for 100 miles or so but I'm not gonna baby it for another 600 lol

Bummer about the assembly defect, but major kudos to your dealer and Genuine for making it right! It's great to see good dealer and warranty support.
