125cc of bad-ass to Amicalola!

Post by scudder »

I got the 4th off from work so I decided to go to Amicalola falls, a state park about 40 miles north of me. Nothing fun, exciting or weird happened…so it is going to be a lame ride report. The ride up to the falls was uneventful; I took some roads I had never been on before… so I got lost a couple times, which can be a good thing. I saw a horse and buggy
Image
The park was pretty busy, luckily when you ride a scooter you can always find parking!
Image
Once I got to the state park I went into the visitor’s center where they had some turtles and snakes on display.
Image
The visitor’s center also had taxidermy bears and raccoons , which made me depressed so I moved on to the trail that lead to the top of the falls! Image

I saw this and have to assume it is a Civil War era potato gun…no wonder the South lost the war.
Image
It was a bit of a hike but it was worth it.
Image
Once I got to the top of the falls the crowd appeared, you can also drive to the top, but I am a bad-ass and hiked it. There were a lot of Asians there….I thought to myself “I like waterfalls and I like Asian women, sometimes life isn’t all that bad”.
Image
The falls itself was nice, this one was much better than the last one I saw but still does not measure up to Multnomah falls in Oregon, which is what I hold all waterfalls in comparison to.
Image
Image
The way back down was a staircase with lots of people that probably bit off more than they could chew in the cardiovascular department.
Image
Once I made my way back to the visitors center I saw some tool parked his crappy cruiser next to my scoot!
Image
I was going to eat at the lodge, but it looked a little to classy for my tastes…
Image
But I checked out the inside anyways…This guy seemed sad and his wife was trying to console him.
Image
On the other hand this kid was happy as hell!
Image
I decided to head back home and took Burnt Mountain Rd. into Jasper. Here is a crappy video:

Here I am looking all bad-ass……It think I have a sort of mish-mash look of: Knight Rider, Mad Max and Mr. Bean going on.
Image
I picked up some beer before heading home….told you it was going to be a lame ride report.

Looks like you had a good time, so the trip was worth it! Nice picture of the waterfall. :)

I wouldn't give that guy such a bad time for parking next to you. He probably thought your scooter was cool--he didn't avoid you, after all!

There's a visitor's center at Amicalola now? It's been, ahem, a few years since I was there, (read: 30+ years) but the falls look exactly as I remember. Thanks for bringing back some old memories! I really enjoyed your ride report.

P.S. A great ride does not have to involve huge distances, a complete rebuild of your engine using only the tools in the supplied toolkit, rewelding your frame using your bare feet to hold the broken frame pieces, or any of the rest of it. A great ride is a great ride. It just is.

I enjoyed the post as well (and the ride commentary .... that was a nasty looking potato gun :D ).

To me this is the most enjoyable part of 2 wheel riding. Trips like this, both long and short, planned or impromptu, group or solo, are really fun.

I can't even begin to remember how many unexpected great things I've come across, whether that be scenery, people, or situations (e.g., getting delayed on a country highway for 15 minutes after the great pig escape and resulting round-up from a local hog farm). I really have to remember to start carrying around or using a camera more routinely on these trips.

Thanks for taking the time to post.

I enjoyed the pictures! Looks like you had a great ride. I had to work the 4th and have been waiting to go out riding.

Love the humorous take on the ride and your great pictures. On behalf of all Oregonians, thanks for the complement for our freakin' amazing waterfall. Multnomah Falls is almost as bad-ass as you. 8)

Yup! Nice report. Great captions and commentary as well.

Little rides that you've done 100 times in a car are very different on 2 wheels. I grew up in Tucson and rode up the Mt Lemmon road many times. The first time on a scooter, I saw this huge natural arch and thought to myself "When did they put that it?!"

I'll be looking forward to more posts
