That's what I was thinking. There have been a couple of recent local incidents with cage drivers passing out for no apparent reason.Dooglas wrote:Single vehicle accidents of this kind - especially involving an older rider - are often the result of a stroke or other medical emergency. (doesn't make the result any better, of course)
Still, regardless of the cause, IF this ever happens to me, I hope I'm wearing some sort of a brain bucket.

Two of the guys from our group managed to have an accident (one clipped the other's rear wheel.) Both went down (we rode ahead and did not know anything happened until a month later, after they came out of rehab). There was no "substances" involved. Just someone not knowing the rules of riding with a group and following too closely. The comment from one of them was that he is planning on getting a full face helmet.

Is that because he expects the other guy to come after him for running into his rear wheel?Stormswift wrote:Two of the guys from our group managed to have an accident (one clipped the other's rear wheel.) As JH said, I bet you can find at least one a day in the news somewhere....
It only might change if people stop treating our scooters as if they were toys. Just last week I noticed the cute girl at work had a patch of road rash on her lower right leg, I asked her what happened. She replied "I crashed a mo-ped" I pressed her for more info, she was wearing flip-flops and a dress, no helmet and I wonder what else she didn't have on
The 'mo-ped' was a SYM HD200.......
I responded,
"EVEN if we treat them as if they toys they'll still hurt us....!!"

Probably. I was getting crash Google alerts for some time but turned them off because I was getting too many "false" alerts for mobility scooters and kids on kick scooters. All tragic, but not the info I wanted.JHScoot wrote:If I search the news everyday I bet I can find a dead scooter rider everyday
The three most common factors in fatal crashes: alcohol use, speed, not wearing a helmet.
