Is our paint semi-gloss or gloss?

Post by kungfooren »

Hi,

After accumulating numerous scratches, I've decided to repaint or replace some of the body panels on my Black Buddy 50cc.
I've seen searching through the forums (and YouTube) and would like to try repainting (spray can) the panels myself. Fortunately, black seems to be a pretty easy color to paint and match.

My plan is to use Black RustOleum Gloss Protective Enamel but I'm not sure if I need the semi-gloss or gloss. Also, should I do a layer of clearcoat? Because I'm not repainting the entire scooter, I just the color that most closely matches the original.

Thanks for any help!

I don't think you can use gloss enamel paint on plastic. I could be wrong about that, but make sure that any paint you use is designed to be used on automotive plastic.

I hope I don't burst you bubble, but black may seem to be black, but it's not. There's a billion different colors of black paint. Also, I had an uncle in the body shop business. He wouldn't let anyone but the best painter paint black cars; he said it was the hardest color to paint - it showed every flaw.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I guess my best bet would be to get a paint shop to match and make me a spray can.
