So, when I was in KY and TN my insurance was $40 a MONTH!!! I ended up storing the scooter in a closet and garage for the last 2 years without insurance and when I called today I was quoted $78 a YEAR for the SAME coverage because the scooter was a "low risk vehicle in a low risk area". I love Colorado! That's for $100 deductible, $2,000 theft, and like $25,000 property and I forgot how much for personal injury, but the progressive agent told me that overall scooters don't cause much damage $78 for a year is AWESOME!!!
Is that a normal rate? I will go over the details later to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Yup, that's about what I pay for my 500. With both scooters on the insurance, the other scooter is only an additional $12 for the year. Of course the latter heavily discounted, keep that in mind.
I have progressive too and i pay $89 a year for the same coverage. Geico (who i have auto insurance with) wanted to charge me a small fortune, progressive was the best price i found...why in the world does anyone drive a car?
hmmm, my insurance through Progressive is gonna be about $600 for the year! that is the quote I got. It would have been about close to $200 less, but I have a red light ticket on there that won't fall off until September :/ still though, $400 for the year is still a heck of a lot more than what you are all getting it for.
My coverage includes: comp/collision, uninsured motorist, pretty much the works. why is mine so pricey? is it the Sacramento area?
My buddy is a 50cc so that could be part pf it. And yes, it probably has something to do with where you live too. Shop around a bit more. You may be able to find something cheaper, or i am sure there are other scooterists in your area on here, maybe they will see this. Or start a new threat asking for best insuramce suggestions. Plus, i am sure it will go down when that ticket drops off, you could always adjust it then. ?..still $400 is considerably cheaper than car insurance!
Yes, still cheaper than car insurance for sure. Progressive told me that it will go down when that ticket drops off so I look forward to that. I wanted to get the best coverage cause I live in downtown. Though the speed limits are low it is still city living. My car was side swept while parked in front of my building a couple of months ago causing a lot of damage. Of course, there was no note. Luckily I have uninsured motorist so that helped. I can't risk that with the Buddy so I got spot in the garage
squidsie, Progressive quoted me $700/yr. AAA quoted me $400/yr. Geico quoted me $90/yr. All 3 quotes were for the same coverage. Guess who I went with?
@k1dude: all three quotes are very different! I will definitely have to call around. I went with Progressive because that is who I have for my car and I am pretty satisfied with them. Thanks for the info

I used geico - didnt have all the coverage you are looking for - i went basic - but i do live outside sac you live downtown more - that will have an impact also im sure
mhardgrove said thier insurance is $78 a year, nice job my current cost is $201.
After reading this thread I got curious on how much Progressive would be, and wow to my suprise it was double what I pay now. I guess I'm staying with State Farm. I wander why insurance here in rural KS is so much higher. I have been driving for 25 years with no tickets or accidents Hmm?
Well I went to Geico, Wooooooooot, the quote for comprehensive w/$100 deductible was $113.00/yr. I will defenitly look into this, Thanx for the thread. Oh by the way if I had completed a motorcycle saftey course it would have been cheaper .
my wife and I have four scoots. 2 Buddys, one Sym , and one Kymco. we have full coverage just like our cars. $100 deductible and the total cost for all four is $153 dollars per year. We get our insurance with Foremost thru AARP. If you are over 50 you can get this insurance if you are a member of AARP which we pay 12.00 a year for 5 year membership. Can't beat that.
I am astonished how much insurance is in states like California. How can you people afford to live out there with all the high prices and taxes for EVERYTHING in that state.

In California your age makes a huge difference. My son is going to school at Cal Poly and with everything except collision/comprehensive his insurance on a 250cc Sports City is $98 per year. To add the other two add $900 per year to it.
I think we are paying somewhere around $140 for two scooters and a motorcycle per year through Progressive. We do have the MSF discount. I am amazed by the range of quotes in this thread.
Knowledge is free at the library. Just bring your own container.
I'm paying $184/yr. with State Farm (because they also have my life & renter's insurance), with comprehensive and collision, but no personal injury, which would have been something like twice as much.
Turned out $79 was for liability, but still only $179 for comprehensive. The kicker, it didn't include theft, that jacked it to $229. Still isn't bad all in all. Maybe I shouldn't have been so giddy about a $79 quote, but $229 isnt bad seeing that I was paying $40 a month back home.
