BUDDY125 Normal amount of air coming from underneath engine?

Post by mjw »

I have a Buddy 125. There appears to be an abnormal amount of air coming from the underside of the engine. Enough to spray dirt and leaves under initial trottle at start up from the left hand side of the scoot.

I assume that an exhaust leak (say from the header connection) would not throw a large amount of air, especially with any sort of downward directional force.

Is there any normal reason that air would be pushed out of the engine this way? Is there an easy / best way to diagnose where the air is coming from?

Cheers,
Matt

Have you put your hand under the engine to feel more specifically where the air stream is coming from?

Well, they are forced-air cooled. The cool air enters at the fan on the exhaust side, and blows over the shrouded engine and exits below...
sounds normal to me.

I did think they were air cooled only - not forced air cooled - maybe I am just being paranoid.

Yes, forced air cooled, see this http://www.modernbuddy.com/pdf/BUDDY_125_PARTS_FIG.pdf
go to page 8...
Forced air cooling is one of the things that makes scooters better than motorcycles :)
