Advice on Stripped Crankshaft Buddy 125

So way back in 2008 I stripped the threads on the end of my crankshaft while upgrading variator weights. I re-threaded the shaft and put it back together with a small tack-weld on the end of the shaft (to hold the nut in place, just in case).

This repair has held until today.

The tack-weld finally broke while I was riding uphill and the variator fan pretty much stripped the splines on the crankshaft as well.

This is where I need some advice.

Is it worth repairing? Is it possible to replace just the crankshaft or does the entire motor need to be replaced (and how much does that cost)?

Should I try another DIY repair (possibly trying to repair the splines, rethread again, and tack-weld again)?

Should I just cut my loses, and try to sell it as-is (what should I expect to be able to get for it)?

2006 Black Buddy 125 with 3,600 miles. In great shape other than the stripped shaft.

Striped threads (rethreaded), and splines. The mark on the edge is from the tack-weld.

Do they look salvagable? If I was to take a file or dremel to them...

Damn, that sucks!
Just get the crankshaft replaced. You barely have any miles on it.

yep, that is the best. a new motor is around 750.00
and you dont want another bandaid fix.

Isn't it possible to just replace the crankshaft without replacing the entire motor? From my research and this thread (topic17139.html), it seems I should be able to buy a replacement shaft and then it is just a matter of tearing down the engine to get the new one in.

You might want to see what items need to be replaced when you crack open the motor if you are thinking about just replacing the crank... IE, bearings, gaskets, shims, etc...
