5000 mile S.I. service

Post by JokerJim »

Hello all.

I rolled over the 5000 mile mark during the Tuscon-Nogales rally.

Scooter World-KC is checking OLIVE over. I asked them to look at the valves and the rollers. I requested the same roller weights be installed if new ones were needed.

I weigh about 215+ a pizza so I am interested to know if the rollers have flat spots.

It took 8.5 months to roll 5000 miles = about 19.5 miles per day average.

That's not bad.

The rollers did have some flat spots and are being replaced with stock weights.
That's all I know for now. I'll keep updating here with all the work being done.

What was the cost? I am curious what yearly maintence would cost on a scooter (assuming about 5,000 miles a year).

OK, so I called Scooter World and checked on Olive.

Waiting on parts. I guess some Piston Clips and other parts are on b/o.

I know how long some in here have waited for b/o parts.

Will keep updating the progress.

It had been a week with no word from Scooter World-KC, so I called to see if the parts had arrived yet.

That would be a NO. They called Genuine yesterday and some parts were shipping out today. Which parts? Good question.

I bought an 86 Honda Elite 150cc off of ebay. It needs new brake pads but is fine as a backup/beater scoot. Previous owner has it covered in foam flower stickers that are proving a challenge to remove.

You can get the rollers for around $15. Labor depends on your dealer. Roller replacement is actually one of the things I feel confident enough to attempt (though I haven't done it yet), and I'm not exactly what you'd call "mechanically inclined."

Hmm. Need a backup scooter because Genuine can't provide routine maintenance parts in a week or so. Genuine is really going to have to get on top of the routine parts problem. My partner and I own a Buddy and a Vino. Yamaha does not appear to have that problem.
