any tips for CA DMV road test?

Post by gregoryrsl »

I'm headed in to the DMV tomorrow morning for my road test. Any pointers? I've had my scooter for a couple of months (600 miles logged).

By the way, this scooter rocks! It starts first kick every time and it's so fun to ride around San Francisco. Love it!

If you have your permit, you can ride on it for a year (actually longer if you renew) before you have to take the test. Is there a reason you're going tomorrow? The severity of the DMV test varies by where/when/by whom it's administered. The CA DMV made the test more difficult last summer, making it very difficult to pass, even on a Buddy. I know of a few people who failed the DMV test after the change.

My advice is to go to the facility on a weekend and practice. They now require that you do their tight circle in both directions at less than 10mph without leaving the lines or putting a foot down. It's not easy at all!

Best pointer: Take the MSF basic rider course. You'll get a waiver for the DMV test and you'll come out a much better rider.

This is the way to go. It only costs $200 or so, but is WELL worth it. Go to http://ca-msp.org/RiderCourse_Locations ... ations.htm for the nearest location.
