my 50cc icebear trike is dangerously slow on takeoff

i have checked and it does not have a pink wire on cdi. i also pulled off exhaust and no restrictor. other than big bore what can i do? i just bought it yesterday. i have 2 regular 50ccs and they are plenty fast.

What is your vendor advising? Might get a 2nd opinion.

If AB101 is passed by the 2013 legislature, it would require Nevada 50cc scooters (mopeds) to be registered and insured. Perhaps a consequence of so many gaming the system with big-bore-kits and related mods.

This rig is actually a trike? That puts quite a bit more weight and rolling resistance on an engine that did not have that much power to begin with. Like trying to hang a sidecar on a 50cc scooter, or even a 125cc scooter. Just not enough torque.

These weigh 264 lbs. ("net weight," which I'm guessing is dry weight?) or 330 lbs. ("gross weight," which I guess is curb weight?), meaning 65-75 lbs. more than most other 50cc scooters and more than a Buddy 125 or even a Vespa 150. That excess weight is mostly in the back, close to the ground.

BBK might be the only way to go to get it faster off the line. You simply need more horsepower. I doubt messing with the transmission and such would have much benefit.

But I'd seek out owners of these models and ask about their experiences. I honestly have a hard time seeing how this kind of bike couldn't be sluggish off the line. That's not meant as criticism, it just is what it is.

I agree with Eric. I have an Ice Bear 150, fondly known as the Icky Bear,
And it has a top speed of 45 (GPS) and is slow off the mark. I use it now days to get to the mail box and around my property, a job that it does
pretty well. I no longer tag it or insure it.

I like the stability of a trike and also a sidecar rig, once you get used to
driving one instead of riding it. If Piaggio/Vespa ever came out with a
350cc or even better a 500 cc trike I would mortgage the farm to get one.
However I doubt that that will ever happen. Not a big market for them.

Yup. That's inertia for you. You might get to the same top speed (or nearly) as on another 50cc scoot, but it's going to take longer to get there (or to stop). Add a small passenger to a Buddy 50 or any other 50cc (to match the mass of this one) and you can expect to see the same thing.

TowPac kits are available for most models. I know several people that have fit them to the larger models of Piaggio scooter such as the BV500.

Eric, if I sold the farm I would not need the Ape. I have seen the Ape in
pix only and if fuel prices skyrocket, a distinct possibility, Piaggio might
find a market for them here.
Dooglas, the Tow Pac has been considered but I dont have a scoot big enough to justify one. They do make them for smaller scoots but my TGB's and my Stella might not be the best rigs for them. Guess I will just stick
with my TGB R91/Cozy rig.
