just broke 1000 miles...the waiting game

I just broke 1000 miles this past week and now it's time for the waiting game...will my crank shaft or crank shaft bearing give out before my factory warranty runs out in September?!?

I say this because a few others I know with Stellas have had that happen between 1000 - 2000 miles so I'm guessing I'm next...

My 09 Stella rode for just over 10k miles of mostly WOT in just under a year before I kitted it up and replaced the crank. The old crank was still good but I knew it wouldn't last long with a kit.

The crank bearing failed on my '07 Stell at 12k miles. Much of that was WOT through the AZ desert in very hot weather. I did multiple rides of 100-200 miles. I think you'll be fine.

Dude...you're still under warranty.I

f you are confident it will fail just drop the motor, split the cases and change the fraking bearings and crank.

It will keep you from worrying about it and we don't have to read about someone complaining about a problem that doesn't exist.

I agree though. Ride it, if it breaks under warranty, they fix it. They even come pick it up.

just a quick update...almost 1600 miles and there is a legitimate problem; I have been chasing my tail trying to locate a 2T oil leak which is deviously deceptive; I find drips and runs in different spots on the bottom of the swing arm and /or engine case...sometimes on the bottom of the tranny oil sump; it was really bad when I had Amsoil HP Injector synthetic 2T oil in the tank (really thin);

I drained the tank again and went back to Castrol Act-Evo synthetic blend 2T oil (luckily I found several more bottles on closeout where I bought the first 2 that I used prior to the Amsoil)...the leak has slowed down, but still exists; I know that I can 'live with it' but I want it fixed so I can switch back to full synthetic after I use the tank of the Castrol oil in there now; waiting until I get my tax refund just in case not all the labor/parts is covered under warranty

It's not September yet, using different oil isn't going to stop a leak.

I can tell you a ton of ways to tear your scooter down to find a leak..I would start by checking the air box gasket...but why?

Dude...I gotta say I just don't get it...You PAID for your warranty...USE IT!!!!!

Agreed ..... especially if it's an '09, suspect that it's the 2T oil check valve.

It's supposed to prevent the 2T oil from siphoning out of the oil tank into the carb box and lower when the scoot is sitting, but has a tendency to leak, especially in the 09's. If your dealer submits a warranty repair claim to Genuine for this it will be granted no questions.

You'll know this is the problem by the oil leak and if the scoot smokes a lot at startup after sitting for a day or so.

I get it ABOUT USING THE WARRANTY and I will, but there is some maintenance that will be out of pocket (new brake fluid) and a possible repair to the tranny that might not qualify for warranty (bottomed out on something that cracked the protective plastic cover) and I was honest with the shop about it (Genuine didn't charge for a new protective cover); about the tranny, I suspect a leak from there as well (before I discovered the 2T oil leak there were drips on the bottom of the tranny housing and no where else on the case or swing arm);

my 2T oil is not dyed and is similar in color to my gear oil and it is now impossible to tell if I still have a tranny leak...and guess what? going back to a thicker 2T oil has slowed the leak down a lot!!!

basically, I have no extra money to spend on the scoot until my tax refund arrives and not everything I need done will be warranty work!!! my ultimate goal is to get the leaks repaired, change the brake fluid, and have my shop consign it...I'd rather take what money I get and put it toward the loan on my motorcycle; later...

Just tell the dealer you only want to do what the warranty will cover for now, and put it up for sale, before tax return time (potential buyers will have refund checks burning a hole in their pockets).

I wouldn't feel right selling a defective machine...I've been on the other side and gotten burned in the past when I bought a few used firearms (when I was more 'gun happy');

I've also 'experienced' a problem with mine (not too far from home) and knowing how cantankerous these friggin Stella 2T's can be...first repair, then sell (if I decide to at the time)
