Question about Headlighst?

Post by Tam Tam »

How hard is it to change out the headlight bulb on a buddy blackjack? My brights went out tonite ( the indicator still lights so I'm guessing it is the bulb)

Not to be overly lazy, but was hoping some folk on here might have some tips/tricks/ suggestions for sapping out bulbs...or maybe recommend a better bulb than the stock.

My fear is that if I just dive into it, it will go from something that should be easy to holy moley!

Thanks, Modern Buddy folk.

Did mine last week. It was easy, but take it slow. There are some small screws to take out and pieces to deal with.

There is an excellent guide for it posted in the Technical Library here:

topic4494.html

I followed that procedure, didn't do the optional part and everything worked well. I would add to that procedure by saying (as some have said) to slip on some plastic gloves as soon as you start to open the package for the new bulb. That way even if you touch it you won't damage it. Also, if you have a windshield - take that off first. I removed mine half way and moved it out of the way.

I used replaced the stock bulb with this one:

It's the PIAA 70473 Super Plasma GT-X HA1 bulb. Lots brighter than the stock bulb, especially on high beam. Very pricey, but probably worth it so you can be seen at night.

be especially gentle with those tabs when taking off the headset cover. I broke two of mine very easily.

 wow, am I glad that is done. The two 'forward' screws sucked getting out, as did the little tabs by the grips...and then when i did the wrong thing to the springy bulb place holder spring thing and it SPRUNG!!! across the garage....but over all, not too bad.

Again, thanx folks for the advice and pics and all...not to sound all hippie and such, but it is always a wonderful connective feeling with the universe when you take a broke scooter, fix it, and get to give it that quick test ride...or is it just me?

Not just you. :D I'm glad I got a Buddy, and found Modern Buddy. Very helpful, knowledgeable people. It's nice to have this group to help me get that feeling. Like someone said to me this past week, "After doing it a hundred times or so, it looks easy when I do it." It's nice to be able to learn from that experience.
