The first thing that you should know is that the only picture or graphic that resides on the ModernBuddy server is your personal avatar, which you upload from your personal computer. All of the other pictures you see here actually reside somewhere else on the internet and are just referenced here. That being said, there are two ways to post pictures here:
A. Posting a picture on ModernBuddy which already exists somewhere on the internet.
or
B. Posting your own personal picture/photograph/graphic on ModernBuddy.
A. How to post a picture on ModernBuddy that already exists on the internet.
OK, you found a picture on a web page and you want to share it with the ModernBuddy community. That is relatively easy.
1. Right click on the picture you want to share; a box will open that gives you a bunch of options.
2a. Select the “Copy Image Location” option. You have now copied the actual internet location of the picture to your computer’s temporary memory.
2b. If “Copy Image Location” is not listed as an option, select the “Properties” option. In the box that opens up you will see the Address or URL of the picture. The address will start with http:// and will end with either .jpg or .gif. Highlight the whole address and hit the “Ctrl” and the “C” keys at the same time. You have now copied the actual internet location of the picture to your computer’s temporary memory.
3. Sign on to ModernBuddy and go to the place where you want to share that picture. Select either “new topic” or “post reply” and a message box will appear on the screen.
4. Place your cursor in the Message Body where you want your picture to appear and hit the “Ctrl” and the “V” keys at the same time. You have just pasted the actual image location into your message.
5. Highlight the entire image location that you have just pasted into your message and then click on the “Img” button above. Selecting the “Img” button will automatically place a small html code before (
6. To make sure that you have done everything correctly, click on the “Preview” button below the Message Body. You should see the picture in the preview of your post.
7. If everything looks right, click on the “Submit” button.
B. How to post your own picture on ModernBuddy.
This procedure seems more complicated than it really is because I have made the directions as detailed as I possibly can in order to help the computer novice. Once you do this a couple of times it will become second nature to you so don’t panic.
In my introduction to this topic I explained that in order for an image to show up on ModernBuddy it must first reside somewhere else on the internet. These directions will walk you through this procedure step by tedious step. Do not be discouraged, it's not hard.
1. You must open an account with an online image hosting service. There are a lot of free choices out there but I will be giving instructions that assume you have chosen to use Photo Bucket (http://photobucket.com). Go to the PhotoBucket web site and click on the red button in the upper right corner of the web page to create your own account.
2. If you already have a PhotoBucket account, sign in to your account.
3. You will see a box that says: upload to ________ (your account name). The next row will give you a choice of buttons that say: images from my PC – video – web url – mobile phone. If it isn’t already highlighted, click on the button that says “images from my PC”.
4. The next row will have an empty box followed by a button that says “Browse…”. Click on the “Browse…” button. This will open up box containing all of the files and folders on your computer.
5. Here’s where you are kind of on your own (sorry), because you have to find the folder that contains the picture you want to post on ModernBuddy. PS: I make this step a little easier on myself by placing all of my pictures in a folder I have named “Graphics”, this way I know where everything is located.
6. Once you find the folder where your graphics are located, and have found the file name of the picture that you want to post, either double-click on the file name or single-click on the file name and then click on the “Open” button (lower right). Once you do that the box will disappear and you will be back at the PhotoBucket web site again.
7. Hit the “Upload” button. A box will open up showing that your file is being uploaded to the PhotoBucket server. This box will close when your picture is finished being uploaded.
8. Immediately below the “Upload” button you will see a line of selections showing: all(#) – images(#) – videos(#) – remix(#) – slideshows(#), and below that you will see thumbnails (small versions) of your pictures. Find the picture you want to post on ModernBuddy and click on the fourth line under the picture where it says: IMG code (followed by the actual web address of your picture). Once you click on the IMG code a small yellow box will appear showing that the actual web address of your picture has been copied on to the temporary memory (clipboard) of your computer.
9. Sign on to ModernBuddy and go to the subject where you want to share that picture. Select either “new topic” or “post reply” and a message box will appear on the screen (the same as a regular typed message).
10. Place your cursor in the Message Body where you want your picture to appear and hit the “Ctrl” and the “V” keys at the same time. You have just pasted the image location into your message.
11. To make sure that you have done everything correctly, click on the “Preview” button below the Message Body. You should see the picture in the preview of your post.
12. If everything looks right, click on the “Submit” button.
If you have any questions or problems you can always send me a Private Message (PM) and I will answer as soon as I can. There is always the chance that I have typed something incorrectly and, if so, I would appreciate someone letting me know so I can correct the instructions.
Sincerely,
The Wild Handyman
