should i get a oil change

Post by toeknee »

I know there is a low oil indicator on the area under the seat of my stella, but what does it look like when im low??

(little bit of back story)
I kick started yesterday (I can’t wait to get back out ridin!)
I’m just over 1000 miles and the last time i got serviced was at about 500-600 (which was about this time last year)

All I see when I look at oil indicator is black, what does the gauge look like when it’s time to get a oil change???

Should I base it on time or mileage???

The sightglass below your seat shows you how much two-stroke oil is left in the bikes autolube tank. It is there to let you know when the level is low so that you do not run out of two-stroke oil and damage your chrankshaft, crank bearings, piston or cylinder. This reservior does not need to be changed, as that oil is consumed by the top end of the engine.

Inside the sightglass, there is a white cylinder. When the oil level gets low enough, you'll see that cylinder. That's your reminder to add a quart of two-stroke oil to the oil tank (the smaller receptacle that lives under the seat). Odds are that this tank has been replenished at least once in the past. Owners of stock bikes have reported getting up to 700 miles on a oil fill, but I've never heard of 1K on a quart of two-stroke oil.

Now that we've covered the autolube system, it is worth mentioning that the transmission section of the engine does hold 10W30 oil and that should be replaced every thousand miles, possibly sooner depending on how you ride. Get that gear oil changed to keep the clutch and gearchange working smoothly.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

Oil is cheap compared to parts ;)
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

You don't need to take the scooter into the shop to add 2T oil to the oil reservoir. You just top it off yourself.
