Top Case lock seems wrong

Post by tula »

Hello folks!

I'm the proud owner of an '07 Italia series, and I have the v. cute top case. Every time I opened it I had to really monkey around with the key, and there did not seem to be one particular way that would make it open. So the last time I got it open, I messed with it while looking at the mechanism, to see if I could figure out what key action does what to the lock. Well! I got it into the locked position, and now I cannot for the life of me make it unlock. The case is still open, so if I want to ride I'll need a bungie.

Could any of you experienced top case people point me to the right solution of the puzzle? The key turns right and will come out at the horizontal position, but it doesn't seem to affect anything. And the key will go "in" and turn left, but nothing happens there either. I also did not see any top case literature in the manual. :sigh:

Thanks,
Tula

I've heard of some lock problems., but not many..make sure it is closed fully. I really have to puch down on ours to latch. Never had a locking issue though. Horizontal is locked and veritcal is unlocked.

If you got yours recently, it came with the same batch as mine...... Urban Moto? :)

Oh, and are you pushing in on the lock button when it is in the vertical position to open it?

(They come w/ no instructions)

Hey thanks, Shark! I can't say that any one thing really worked, but after getting your reply I went and man-handled it and finally got the lock to pop open, allowing to close the top. Rarely do I advocate man-handling, but this time it did the trick. I think the top needs to be in the lock for the unlocking mechanism to work correctly. Now it's all good. Goodbye, ugly bungie!

And yes, Urban Moto! Our Italias are sisters. Mine's named Carmina. Beautiful riding weather, ain't it?

Thanks again for the help!

Hey Tula, I sprayed a lite teflon lubricant into my box lock and it now works like a charm, and thats in high summer 90+ degrees to sub freezing air temps...you can get a small bottle of the lube at any decent bicycle shop in your town, hope that helps you out......

thanks for the compliment.... got it from: www.scooterseatcovers.com the owner is crystal waters, she does an awesome job...

mine is actually the exact colormatch of the olive greeen and the light green but the pic doesnt show true color because of fluorescent lighting in the garage... in real live the colors match perfectly....
