Warranty

I recently took my Buddy 125 to an authorized dealer to be serviced. They said that I needed a new stater, which I guess is different than a starter, but part of the electrical system. They are telling me the total will be $180. Is this covered under the 2 year warranty for Genuine? I'm trying to find answers so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Think of a stator as something like an alternator. Others have had a bad stator replaced under their warranty so I presume you will as well. Why is your dealer being so coy about this? He should simply tell you that he thinks it is covered under warranty and he will request approval from Genuine to make a warranty repair.

Well, I had a basic service on March 14, which was about 2-3 days short of my 2 year warranty. I wanted to see if there were any parts that may need replaced before it expired. They checked everything for me and the report said that all electrical parts came back okay. The very next day it stalled on me for the first time ever on the way home. Minutes later stalled again and again and eventually failed to start. About 30 minutes later, after trying again and again it started and I went home. This night was about 40 degrees and raining so I thought maybe that had something to do with it. Over the next week or 2 it was snowing so I couldnt take it to their shop so I finally took it in beginning of April and now 3.5 weeks later they get to fixing it and now say it will cost $180 for a new stator. I have to believe it was failing during my basic service on March 14, but I dont know for sure. I feel like they should have found the problem then that way I would have been under warranty. Am I wrong to think that?

If you are the original owner and the machine is less than two years old the stator is a covered repair (Stator is short for Stationary Field Wiring).
The stator on your machine is the stationary section of the alternator and includes the ignition pulse generator.

If you are the second owner, the warranty is gone.

Sounds like a part failed the day after the warranty expired. I would hope your dealer and Genuine could take care of it in the interest of customer service but they don't *have* to.
And riding in the rain or temps well below 40 degrees is no problem for a Buddy.

An electrical part fails in the blink of an eye.....it is instant.

If it was tested at that service, it likely was fine, but could just have easily failed on the ride home.

Regardless, ask your dealer to contact Genuine.....I can only say I have seen several instances where they allowed a 'Goodwill' warranty repair slightly beyond the end of the warranty.

Very open minded company.
