226 exhaust, how do they hold up?

Post by Lokky »

Hello all,

So I am considering getting a 226 exhaust (haven't decided between Hbomb or hot wing), mostly because my sito+ has become a yearly replacement item due to riding all winter and parking the bike outside.

So, any idea how well would a 226 pipe last me before rusting and cracking? At 500$ a pop I'd hope it would last a while.

GGR has been using the 226 Pipes for years here in Tucson with success, We have a few of the prototype pipes that were hand built and are still working just fine. However we have a dry climate with no snow or road salting.

If you drop the 226 guys an Email they should be able to answer any questions you have.

What is failing on your Sito's? Are they just rusting out?

yeah they rust and develop a crack where the header meets the muffler. Last year it failed on the way to Amerivespa and cost me most of my second day of riding.

I do hear a ceramic coating is available, perhaps that would prevent most of the issues.

Ended up ordering a boomstick since the performance seems similar but the price is much lower.

Do expansion chambers require tinkering with the ignition timing or should I be good with what works on the sito+?

I've had 2 hot wings... But for just a little over a year.... On a 08...And a 09.... But.... Always garaged.... They never rusted. 2 friends have them for 2 years now.... Always garaged nd never ridden in salty sloppy streets...
Never rusted..
I suspect that any metal except stainless steel or aluminum will rust out quick if ridden around on salty sloppy wintery streets without a thorough cleaning... And leaving them outside in the elements ain't going to ward off rust either...
If You can't take the bike inside.. At least take the 226 off and put it inside every nite! Damm
Good luck

I'm not running a sito, but an SIP road. I took it to my local powder coater and had it jet hot coated in black when it was new just to see if it would last. I am going on 2 years and it looks almost new. seems to have been worth the $50. Just another idea.
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

Love the SIP Road. I have one on my P200 and it really woke up a mildly tuned bike. The Sito let's you rev on a bit longer; the SIP let's you rev on even longer still and gives a nice boost to the mid-throttle range.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...
