New Scooter Purchase- an Recommendations?

Post by dennylab »

I bought a new a Piaggio LT150 in 2005 and I am now in the market for another scooter- 125 but no bigger than 200. Can anyone recommend a scooter brand? I live in San Francisco and ride alone.
My ideal scooter would have under seat storage and larger wheels, but I'm open to your suggestions? I'd also like to hear about maintenance issues you might have. My Piaggio was expensive to maintain but the resale was terrific!
thank you! Denny

Well, this is the Modern Buddy website so one recommendation would be a 170i Buddy  . Now, if large wheels are a must have - there is really nothing at all wrong with the new Piaggio Fly. It comes out this spring with the new fuel injected 3 valve engine and is a heck of a bargain.

I was gonna say SYM, used Piaggio BV, or Kymco. I think those have bigger wheels...

New Scooter Purchase- an Recommendations?

Thank you everyone- I'm leaning towards a Buddy scooter because of their 2 year warranty.

I don't think that you will find the ten inch wheels to be a problem. I have had scoots with twelve inch wheels and have ridden scoots with fourteen inch wheels. I have not been able to tell that much difference other than the ten
inch wheels respond quicker when turning. I am a big fan of the 170i. :D

If you ARE looking for big wheels, i'd say SYM HD200 or Kymco People 200 (the new Peoples are a legit 200)

Better still, the actual displacement is 205cc...they actually rounded down on the badging for a change. It's a really nice motor!
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Then definitely look at the Buddy 170i. I've owned and ridden quite a few under 200cc scooters in the past 6 years, including Sym HD200, Yamaha Vino 125, Scarabeo 200, Honda Elite 150, Buddy 125, and my favorite by far is my current ride, a 2012 Buddy 170i. You can do an honest GPS recorded 60 mph (some claim more); average MPG is in the high 70s and you just can't beat that fuel injection.

It does look nice, but not for the long of leg.

The frame isn't my style. As for the motor, I'd retrofit it into the Yager if I could. I love my bike, I just wish it had slightly longer legs. Maybe I could import the 270cc from the new G. Dink; cruising over 70 wouldn't need so much finesse on the throttle.

I am 6' 1" with a 32" inseam. I find the 170i to be comfortable but then I
ride single only and can scoot back on the seat. :D
