Hit and run fun! Am I good to drive to my local dealer?
Hello all,
Long time lurker, first time poster - I'll come in with the good stuff (and there is lots of good stuff to share!) at a later date, but unfortunately, my first post isn't a fun one...
Long story short, some wonderful human being (that hopefully has a date with karma in their future) knocked my parked Buddy over. They were definitely aware of it, and the damage they had caused - I know this because after knocking it over, they very helpfully (!) must have gotten out of their car, picked my Buddy back up by both side mirrors (because those seem like a reasonable place to apply leverage), and, after leaving it on the side kickstand, drove off. I emerged from the store to find the right side of my Buddy covered with road rash, both mirrors bent to hell, right side brake lever bent to hell, contents of the cubby spilled across the street, etc.
I did manage to start her and actually limp home, but for the first time ever, it took a few tries to start her...
Anyways, I have a date with my local dealer this weekend to check everything out (especially that right brake lever - isn't there hydrolic brake fluid or something around there?) BUT, I could use some of the board's collective wisdom. I am by no means mechanically inclined, but looking around, I did notice two odd things that seemed out of place.
One was a random thin rubber tube, on the left side of the bike. It is pretty small, but... who knows what it is supposed to be attached to? The other is an odd 'thingy' (that is the technical term) on the right side - again, who knows what it is supposed to be attached to?
My question for the board is, can anyone identify what these are, and if so, would the fact that they are 'dangling' mean I shouldn't be driving the Buddy (if possible) to the shop, but rather getting it towed out there?
Thanks ahead of time for your help!!! After something like this, I feel like I have some good karma to spread around, so I'll be sending it your way!

So sorry to hear you are having to mess with that! How awful! Could be that a nice bystander actually picked up your bike and not the bozo that knocked it over...
Regarding the hard starting...that may have been because it was knocked over and fuel got in places it doesn't normally go (in technical terms
).
Regarding the hose you have pictured...I know people have posted about that, and darned if I can't remember what it is that it does (maybe gas tank vent evap tube or something like that), but it's normal. I just went down to the garage and looked at both of my Buddy 125s, and they each had that hose hanging there.
One less thing to worry about!
I'm not much of a mechanic, but the above are things I have observed myself, or read in posts in the past.

The rubber hose is the drain from the Carb.. that is the correct place for it.
And I do not know what that other thing is.. I just got done fixing a buddy today and i did not notice it on there.. Is your buddy a 50?
Sorry to hear about your scooter. I cant believe someone would do that to someones stuff.. Be ready to shell out some cash on the mirrors they are 50$

Bummer! I hope your *good* karma comes back to you soon.
The "thingy" in the last picture looks to be a cap for sealing an electrical pigtail connection. It may or may not supposed to be connected and/or plugged in, but I don't think it will affect how your scoot runs in the short term, if it isn't sealing what it should - but do be sure to check that your brake and blinkers etc are working properly before getting out on the road.
Best of luck to you at the dealers!

if you feel its unsafe to ride, can the dealer pick it up?
OR, if you're still under warranty, call the roadside service folks and have them take it to the dealer for you.
if its out of warranty, does your insurance include roadside assistance? i pay $10/yr. to progressive for that service.
good luck!

The first two photos are pretty much surely the carb drain tube. Every carburated Buddy should have one. No worries.
The third photo indeed looks like a battery-charger pigtail. My dealer would install one on the battery of the scoots on the showroom floor, and had like a 10-port Battery Tender to keep them charged-up. That was a nice touch, as new owners only need to purchase and connect a Battery Tender, and could avoid having to install the pigtail themselves.

Thanks!!!
Thanks so much to everyone for the assist! This board has been an incredible resource for me, dating from the first moment I decided to take the plunge on a scooter, through my earliest days or ownership and ridership, to today - and this is precisely why. You all rock!
