Forgive me if this has been asked but: How did the Buddy get the name Buddy in the states? I'm not saying it's awfull cos I like it n all just a bit of trivia I'd like to know.....
I guess because "Grand Dink" was already taken and they woulda had to add two feet to the cowling to fit "McCaleb's Marvelously Magical Miniscule Motorscooter"

Actually Bet-n-win, Xciting, Downtown, and a number of other dippy names were also taken by others, and Bubu didn't seem like a winner so - quick, think of something friendly and not too goofy.
The name is 100% from Genuine. As for why… uh, I have no idea. It would not surprise me to hear they were tossing ideas around and thought this was funny and it stuck.
Eric // LA Scooter Meetup Group // Stella 4T // Vespa LX // Vespa LXS // Honda Helix // some, uh, projects…
I've always figured it was chosen in an attempt to "translate" Bubu into something similar-sounding* that could work in obvious advertising slogans like "It's good to have a Buddy".

Most likely because it's a warm fuzzy kind of name. Everybody wants a "buddy", right?
