Winter riding

For you folks who like riding in the cold, saw a guy yesterday afternoon
riding what looked like a Honda Rebel on our country road. Temp was
20 degrees. We are enjoying some good ol' southern winter weather.
This morning it is 5 degrees with a wind chill around 10 below.

Saturday the high will be 65!!

Some of us have little choice!

It's icy enough we can't ride this second, but warmer temps this week might solve it.

The bus is just depressing

It's the solid water thing, not the cold temps, that make me forgo the PTW travel.

Is there a point of too cold? This morning I tried to start my scooter for the first time in a few days, the snow is all clear but it's 3 degrees out. The battery was fully charged a week ago, seafoam in the tank, but it just wouldn't start, would barely crank. Granted, the car would barely turn over either, but I didn't know if there is a real limit to how cold is too cold for the scooter engine.
Oh, it's kept outside, covered, but not in a garage or anything.

I've started and ridden mine at -9F. Granted I am very close to work but still pretty cold. Not bad if you have the right equipment. A far as what accessories to use YMMV. ;o)

I think heat kills a battery faster than cold as long as you trickle charge it.

Yeah I'm very close to work as well, I just don't have access to trickle charging it at home and can while I'm at work. Getting there to do it on the other hand... hah. I'll probably pull the battery and bring it inside and make sure it is all charged up.

Thats what we have to do. I have 3 banks of chargers at home, and 4 bikes. The 2 buddies take the same and fortunately my 2 bigger bikes do also, so I just rotate them. There's no electricity where they're parked so we've got the battery removal down to a science.

This guy has developed an interesting strategy WRT "keeping the cold wind off (his) face" while scooting.

Man dodges traffic while riding scooter backwards

Probably a good thing he does not own a 1200cc sportbike...

Yep, I pulled the battery yesterday and sat it on the charger inside. This morning I dropped it in and it started immediately. Back on the road!

I had a similar problem and just posted about it, if that's all I need for my scoot that would be awesome!!!
