Forum Organization & the Stella Auto

Post by ericalm »

We occasionally get asked why we put so much in General Discussions and don't have sub forums for all the Genuine models. Often the question comes with a reference to another forum that does that.

That's good for organizing data, but over the years we've found here and on ModernVespa that it's not as good for building community. Members will tend to stick to their own little areas and things get a bit cliquish and divided. We're not just here for answering questions but building a community of owners. Also, people learn and discover much more with most posts in one place.

Unfortunately, this forum was already split into a few sections by the time this became apparent. Ideally, we'd have two major sections, "General," which would include all the Genuine automatics (most of which are pretty darn similar anyways), and one for the manual Stellas.

There are more than two times the number of posts in the Stella forum than in the much older Black Cat, Rattler & Roughhouse Discussion one. The Blur forum also has far fewer.

So. What to do about the Stella Auto? Not a PGO-built Genuine. Totally different parts. But as different from a Stella manual as the Blur is. Um… I've flipped on this a couple of times, not wanting to compound the issue of having too many sub-forums.

The idea for now is to put the Stella Auto with the other Stellas. Of course, posts about it are welcome here in General Discussions, but the more technical, specific stuff in the Stella forum.

Thanks for your indulgence. :)

i say we make a sub forum for the stella auto. and another for an auto stella. which would be the same deal, but with the word "auto" in front of stella

also, a sub forum for those two sub forums where we can discuss the differences between the two forums, and match them against the old stella forum

just to keep things simple =]

Thanks Eric.
It's a tough one trying to categorize things sometimes. Some might think of putting the Roughhouse and Black Cat into a single "non-Stella 2-stroke" category but then what about the 2-stroke Buddy? Shouldn't it stay with the other Buddy's (Buddies?)?
I've been able to navigate the forum just as it is and we appreciated all you do.

I look forward to the discussion of the 22-stroke Stella, as promised by the description of the Stella subforum. :)

And here I was thinking that a six-stroke cycle was getting complicated...

I want to see a Stella with a hit-and-miss engine. :D
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Have you considered gathering the Blur/BC/Rat/RH forums into General Discussions? The people who own those scoots might like the privacy, but I know I have heard at least once a Roughhouse owner posting in GD looking for someone to read his question in the other forum.

Change sucks, but sometimes it turns out for the best.

Okay, I always thought this would be a PITA, but it's actually quite easy. Bwahahahahahahahaa!

I'm going to have to back everything up and then play around on a test server.
