winter riding's a flop :(

Post by kmrcstintn »

this winter is brutal and every time we've had warmer temps on the weekend we've had steady rain (backyard where scoot is stored turns into a mud pit), hence my intermittent riding this winter has been a flop; with arctic blast after arctic blast, I'm starting to wonder if we'll see above 25 degrees ever again...
did anyone get the license plate number of the bus that just hit me?!?

Between the cold weather and having the flu during the warmest week all winter and refusing to ride anywhere during crazy holiday shopping (I live to close to a major shopping mall), I haven't ridden in 2 months. I haven't gone that long without riding since I got my scooter. It sucks.

I was still riding in early December, and I managed to get the scooter out onto the road once this month, during a weekend of above-freezing weather we had after that first polar-air incursion. I'm hoping for at least another brief thaw in February, then the receding of the glaciers in March, so I can ride at least once per month. It's been pretty easy to do that the last few years, but this one ... not so much.

I believe this is the most brutal winter I've ever experienced here in the Chicago area.

We've had winters with more snow, and we may have had colder winters (not sure about that), but I can't remember a winter where we've had both the extreme cold temps and this amount of snow. Where I'm located, NW Indiana, we've already had 10 inches more snow that we had the last two winters combined.

I always set a goal for myself and riding at least once during every month of the year. I won't achieve that goal this year.

I moved back to PA in 2003 from the mid south and this is the coldest winter I've experienced since then...there's a charity ride happening on Easter weekend that I want to do, but I'm already predicting the high temp will be in the 30's and we'll have snow falling!

We have had below freezing lows for 3 weeks now, it is 10 this morning but
should warm up to day to 44. See a few motorcycles on the road but no scoots.
So far this month has been a record breaker for us. And this past summer set a record for being the 5th wettest summer in GA history of record keeping. So much for globular worming!!! :fp:

It's mostly the rain that keeps the scooter in the garage down here. I will commute to work in temps down to 34 or so if the forecast is dry and not too windy. We just had an ice storm but that only happens 2 or 3 times per decade.

May it drop off into the ocean sooner rather than later....

We finally got nice weather in OK (60s) and I come up just too sniffly to ride. I plan to ride tomorrow but Monday will drop all the way to a high of 25 again. Ugh!

Oklahoma City has had 1.5 weeks of dry so far. I'm not a big fan of OK, but it's good for droughts.

We did hit 12 degrees on Friday, but I still rode. It was dry, and I want to see how low I can go. It looks like we will have more opportunities for me to find my limit through the work week - cold, but dry.

Hate to rub it in but it's been nice here in AZ. Basically riding weather every day with temps in the high 60s, low 70s and not a spot of rain. But, wait until June, July and August!

I would GLADLY give up some of the amazing weather we are having In CA for some rain and snow. The drought is here... and it's going to get ugly.

Here in the South we would gladly share some of out sub zero weather and snow (going to snow in SOUTH GA. this coming week) for some of that CA/AZ warmth.

the south is getting slammed also primarily due to the primary flow established by the jet stream...if it continues to take a sharp dip into the south it's gonna be a blistery cold winter (regardless if Punxatawny Phil sees his shadow on Sunday morning!!!)

What's the matter? Y'all afraid you will melt? It's not the wet stuff that's the problem.

It's been a hard winter but I'm on my 5th winter riding all year on a scooter. Lots of tips and tricks to staying on the road here in Salem, MA!

Snow predicted for here today. High will be 31, now is 29. Strangely most
of the heavy snow is predicted from Atlanta to SGA.
Bought a scooter, should have bought a sled.

Not much fun here in NJ either. I've got the Helix all torn down for an overhaul with half of it in the basement and the other half in the garage. Both places are just too damned cold to get very much accomplished at any one time. I'm forced to work in Chernobyl-like spurts - 15 minutes on and an hour off.

I remember when it didn't take two hours for blood to make a complete tour of my circulatory system. (Sigh)

I the temp has dropped 2 degrees and is now 27. Snow/sleet/ice now predicted for us, 50 miles north of Atlanta, starting this afternoon. Estimate
is for 1-2 ". Could be worse. Saturday and Sunday will be in the high 60's, good riding weather except it is going to rain!!! :goofy:

Yeah how 'bout it. Yesterday woke up to a 30° morning and got my hopes up that the worst was over. This morning all hopes smashed, back in the teens with wind chill down to 2° and more on the way. Damn those farmers.

Well, it is 6:00 pm now. All of GA from Atlanta north is just one big traffic jam. I got 3" of snow here at my place. With our vertical driveway we did
not go any where. Temp now is around 19. Keep in mind that we dont often
get this much snow and no one knows how to drive in it. High tomorrow will be 30 then it starts warming up and by Saturday will be in the low 60's.
Yesterday we were being told on the news that sand and de icer trucks, city and state were prepped and ready for it. Evidently not. People on the city streets are running out of gas waiting for traffic to move, same on the Xways. In the suburb of Marietta they are keeping teachers and students over night in the schools as they cant get the busses out and the parents cant get thru the traffic jams to pick up the kids. Wrecks all over the interstate and in the towns. Oh well. Welcome South Brother!! :wha: :wha:

I'm hearing from relatives in the Metro Atlanta area that the salt trucks are stuck in traffic just like everybody else.

We ended up with 3.5" of snow here on the hill. We are in the start of the NGA mountains. It is pretty but COLD""!! You heard right, metro Atlanta is
locked down tight and here in Cherokee Co. teachers and staff are spending the night with the kids at school, no transportation for them. Also correct, sand trucks can not get to the bad spots due to the grid lock.

Well several hours north I have been enjoying my toasty morning commutes of 12 and 14 degree mornings. Puts a real grin on my face when I walk in and someone looks at me like I am an idiot. If they only knew....
