Starting Buddy while hooked up to battery float

Post by schroeder »

Will any harm be done by starting up my scooter while it is still hooked up to the float? I just want to run it for a while to run some fuel thru the system.
Me? I ride for the bugs!

The Battery Tender Jr is designed to tolerate this mistake without burning up, but my question is, why tempt fate? Why not just disconnect it? Also, I note you didn't mention whether yours is a "Battery Tender" brand float charger. If it's anything other than a real Battery Tender, all bets are off and my only advice it to disconnect it before switching your scooter on.

What he said  Only takes a sec to unhook from the tender/charger, floater. Better safe than sorry.

I have done it on more than one occasion but never really thought about any negative consequences. After this, I'll definetely make the disconnect. Thanks!

Again, if it's a real Battery Tender(R), it won't matter, but I try not to develop bad rabbits that might come back to bite me in other circumstances, and firing up a vehicle that's connected to a charger is definitely a bad rabbit.
