Lack of power

Post by Austinative »

Howdy forum members,

This is my first post. I have been referencing the forum over the past day or 2 trying to see why my scooter wasn't starting. It was a dirty carb. So I found a good post about removal and cleaning and followed it. Got it back into the scooter and it started up great. But I'm guessing that my throttle cable isn't adjusted correctly. It has no pick up and no top end. I can get it to 40mph but not much more. I'm going to take it to the shop now that it's running. But I figured picking yalls collective brains wouldn't hurt. I tried to adjust it at the carb and also at the handlebars and can't seem to recover any pick up. Any suggestions and proper throttle adjustment would be much appreciated.

First guess: the throttle slide diaphragm isn't seated properly.

See this thread for help with that:

At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

Turned out to be the float in the carb. It's held in place by a rod and screw. I had the wrong screw holding it so there was some play. Found the short one holding in the plunger. Switched them and reassembled and it runs great.

I suffer from a lack of power too but I attribute it to being 78 years old!!!
(Sorry, the Devil made me do it!!)
Growing old is inevitible, being old is not.
