Five tank MPG for 170i

Post by GregsBuddy »

Hello.
Just completed a 5-tank average fuel consumption test on REGULAR grade fuel.
The data:
(1264-712Miles) / (5.667Gal) = 97.4 MPG = 2.42Lt/100Km
Test conducted after break-in (600MI/960Km) period and two oil changes.
I do not ride slowly and accelerate faster than traffic but stay within the "allowed" speed limit.
My average ride take ~15-20 minutes with several shorter 5-10 minutes every 3-5 rides. Much of the longer rides are ridden at ~45 MPH (~70 KPH).
I'm very happy with these results and will stay with 87 Octane fuel ((R+M)/2 calculated).
YMMV

That's great mileage for a 170. My Blur 150 only gets about 75 mpg. You must not have very many hills where you ride. :D

Hills are mild on most of my riding area here in Fairfield.
The injection should be giving better power AND fuel consumption.

That does sound good.

My Hooligan 170i (same engine, I think) has averaged 65 over the first 966 miles. But. There is always a but, isn't there? When I compare the trip reading on the odometer to the trip on my GPS there is a 12% difference. For example, the Hooligan read 78.8 at the last fill-up and the GPS read 72.7. That means my mpg is more like 61 than 65. Harrumph.

Hmmm.
The reason I did a five tank test was to gain a true average.
I used the scoot's odometer but the fuel volume should be correct if the county is doing an accurate annual test of the fuel stations here.

Why don't you get s fuelly account and just keep regular tabs every tank?

My intention is to have a number I can use when people ask me about scooter mileage.

I just tell them that it's much better than their car, lol.

True.
My Prius gets better mileage than my Silverwing600 on the highway at ~>70MPH.
Scooter aero is very poor and it's the limitation for mileage at speeds greater than ~50MPH over cars. We've got the SUV's and pickups covered at least!
