Raingear

Post by Alix B »

Motogear Outlet looks like they have some decent deals on riding gear.
Especially raingear.
Any suggestions? Share your previous purchases with me. It's so hard to guess about this stuff!
Last year's ride my $10 rain suit didn't hold up through the 2nd storm, time for some quality.

I got a EB rain suit from target (for about $20?) and it's been holding up well :)

a lot of people I have talked to sweat by Frogg toggs. I don't have them, but they look pretty sweet. I just have generic ones from Sams Club...they worked out well enough....not great for a weekend of constant rain though.

I use Frogg Toggs Pro Action Rain Suit:

I bought mine locally and I seem to remember they were cheaper in the store than online.

I have used mine in Real Rain® - not just the spittin' kind. They work great and fold up small enough to fit under the seat on the Buddy.

I purchased my rain gear at a local bicycle shop. High quality waterproof and breathable, I use it in the wet, and cold weather as a wind breaker, ten months old and still in new condition, the good thing about it is its made to be moved around in (cycling) and it has a good amount of reflective material on it...

I spent about 30 dollars on a 2 piece rain suit from my local camping store. Its held up really well, but it doesnt have reflective strips. When it comes time to replace it ill go with a motorcycle specific suit. If you wear an armored jacket when you ride make sure your rain jacket fits over it. You want that armor when its slippery!

I wore Frogg Toggs during the rain storm at the Rattle-My-bones rally this year.

First and only time I had to put on rain gear. Did the entire ride and was bone dry underneath.

So I heard the toggs were the best, and they claim to be BREATHABLE... I figure that's a pretty tricky feat for a waterproof material. Any comments on the breathability (is that a real word?) from those who have used them?

Yes they breathe.

In fact each exhale kinda tickles the boys.

breathable, keeps water out but lets body moisture out so you don't get wet from sweat.
several years ago i heard from many that frogg toggs are good as long as they last but don't hold up particularly long. take along duct tape for repairs. the idea is you have to balance the economics of good price, light weight and breathability with delicate and cheapish fabric.

The stuff I got is made by a company called O2, also Pearl Izumi, a High tech cycling clothing Co. makes really good rain gear as well, again water proof breathable and made to move around in, you can google them and check out what they have available.

Frog togs were recommended by one of my motorcycle friends.

I have a lined raincoat I picked up from Land's End a few years ago. It is polyvinyl on the outside with Polyester body and Nylon sleeve lining. It's simply incredible for cold, wet weather! And it's "classic" bright yellow--sticks out like a sore thumb! :D

I just checked and it fits over my armored jacket although I look a little like Ahhhhhnold in it! Well, heck--I need all the help I can get with the ladies! LOL! :D

I've got a Fieldsheer rain suit that I picked up for about $65 at a local motorcycle shop a couple years ago. It's been amazingly durable. I've stuffed the jacket and pants in a big wad inside my helmet under the seat many times, and I've been wearing the jacket daily for the last couple months. It has a nice microfiber collar, reflective material across the back, and elastic on the back at the waist so it doesn't flap around. It isn't really breathable though so it might not be the best for warmer weather, but in the cool rain we get here for most of the year it has been great.
