Suspenion for a buddy
I've seen some members replace their rear suspension with a better one, does anyone have model numbers and company names? I looked at scooterworks, but they dont have anything as suspension for a buddy.
Also, can the front suspension be changed? Just curious.

Try a lower front tire pressure. My Buddy rode like a rock until I reduced the front pressure to 25 psi and the rear to 28 psi. I weigh 132 lbs. It's more comfortable and there are no handling problems. If I were going to carry more weight I'd up the pressure. Slowing down and standing up also help alot.

That sounds like a good idea... When I was driving around I noticed when I went like 45+ mph it would start to get a bit wobbly and I assumed it was the tire pressure. After I checked & saw it was low I went ahead and filled to the recommended psi. I guess that's when I started noticing the stiffer bumps. I haven't carried a rider or significant load yet, and it will probably be a rare occurrence, so lowering my front pressure should be a big help. Thanks!Tazio wrote:Try a lower front tire pressure. Scooterworks (and Genuine Dealers) will be carrying a lot of NCY stuff and a lot of new Buddy performance stuff, a new catalog is due very soon. You can get on scooterworks' mailing list on their site:
http://www.scooterworks.com/CatalogRequest.cfm
Of course, patronize your local dealer if you have one, their prices should be about the same as Scooterworks' and it'll save you the shipping cost (and wait, if they have it in stock).

They had a binder at the show with a mockup and I just figured it was a the consumer catalog, it looked like an update of the last one, and they're due for a new one.BGK wrote:Hey Beeb, I think the new catalog is for dealers only. But I assume one could go to their dealer and take a look and drool over new bits to get. Did you hear specifically that it was going to be for direct sale?
Maybe it is a dealer-only catalog, but Scooterworks is a Genuine dealer and will presumably sell anything Genuine is offering to other dealers through their catalog/website, right?
I am a little confused about their wholesale operation now, I'm not sure if Tutti Ricambi (which is/was their wholesale parts distributor) is still the same, but it appears they're selling all the Genuine accessories and performance parts (and Prima, which is their own brand, and NCY, which they exclusively distribute in the US I think) under the Scooterworks name. Someone explained it to me at Dealer Expo while I was drunk. : )

actually the more I think about it, I could see why they might be reluctant to sell certain things through the catalog/web, both to avoid cutting into dealer sales, and to make sure a dealer installs it properly. But that doesn't sound like the Phil McCaleb I know, ha.illnoise wrote:presumably sell anything Genuine is offering to other dealers through their catalog/website, right?
AND, Scooterworks/Genuine is running a banner ad on this very site that says "Scooterworks: Now offering NCY performance parts!":

So, not proof that they'll sell EVERYTHING they've got, but I think it's a safe bet.

This isn't about suspension, but- I emailed scooterworks customer service cuz they didn't have a chrome headlight bezel for the Buddy on the website, the dude said:
"they are not on the website because we don't readily stock Genuine parts".
WHAT THE HECK! Where else are you supposed to get one? I guess I could order one from Scoot Richmond, but all their stuff costs a little more, plus shipping is more from them (at least for me it is)...

I think he means because they first have to order parts from Taiwan (PGO) and I guess they don't order enough at a time to keep stock for both web inventory and for dealers? I'm just guessing though.KRUSTYburger wrote:the dude said:

There's just too many parts to list, and they don't stock most of them, even for dealers. I can see why they'd want to drive actual Genuine parts through the dealers, but the aftermarket stuff, I'd think they'd put that on the site (some is there, and I'd imagine there's more coming.) I think they also sell the more common wear parts (rollers, belts, filters, etc...
Remember, Scooterworks mail order is still primarily a vintage Vespa business. Maybe brooke's right and they're going to keep it that way and do all the modern stuff through dealers. I dunno.
