Scooter declared totaled....general advice

Post by bennfine »

hey-sort of a hit and run last week on my roughhouse. they stayed around to make sure i was alive but that was about it. was too shaken up to get info before they took off.

anyway....there is front frame damage so the insurance adjuster is calling it totaled. i have cash value replacement with a 500 deductible so he says he is going to try to find 3 prices for similar scooters nearby and take the average. its a 2015 titanium with only 800 miles or so. i have full accessory coverage so get full credit for back rack and case.

anything i should be looking out for during this process? i figure i'm going to lose about 1000 on this which sucks but i came out ok with just a few bruises and road rash so happy about that. was wearing full gear except decided not to wear my gloves because of the warm weather [small mistake there].

thanks

Do you get to keep the parts too?
I've had my scooter totaled, luckily I was not on it and it was in the parking lot. I took the money, got to keep the usable parts and rebuilt it.
If you don't feel like rebuilding, you can recoup some of those losses by selling some parts

my impression is no...i asked if i could take the case and they said if i did that they would deduct it from the reimbursement.

thanks

Insurance companies typically will let you keep the damaged scooter by allowing you to "buy" it back for whatever sum you agree on. This, of course, reduces the insurance settlement. I have not heard of a company that just gives it to you.

I'm glad you're ok. Too bad you met up with one of the bastards of the world.
