So pulled the scooters out (YAY, no more snow!) and this how the bolts for the rear rack were looking:
When I first got the rear rack I thought to myself "why didn't this come with stainless steel bolts?!" So I replaced the old rusted ones with these (M8-1.25 x 40mm):
Perhaps you can get the "new" bolts that Genuine is supplying w/ the rear rack. I purchased the chrome rack for my wife's pink 50 and it came with minimal hardware, a couple washers, a spacer for the middle, and a chrome flange nut. When i bought the same rack later (directly from scooter works) it came with a much improved hardware kit. Came with really nice (i.e., pretty) chrome looking round, button-head socket head cap screws (round head, hex socket in the center for driving), some nice rubber washers (vibration dampers), some nice BIG metal washers and some other parts. MUCH better set of hardware, none of which will rust. I'm considering calling up scooterworks and asking them if they can give me a hardware kit for my wife's rack. The rack is the same design and everything, just different hardware. I figure the local dealer's stock was old.

I wonder if that is as a result of existing owners complaining about the bolts tearing up the seat covers. If so, that says a lot about Genuine listening to their customers.
Thanks for the heads up on the new hardware. I have to admit Genuine is impressing me immensely! They REALLY seem to listen to their customers:
Added Bigger Headlight
Added Accessory Port
Improved Rear Rack (after the problem with the original ones)
Improved Rear Rack Hardware
Add More Color Options
Added 150cc Engine Option
Added EXTENDED MIRRORS!
Seriously seems like they read the message board and listen to their dealers. That's really a sign of a great company! Looks like Genuine plans to be around for awhile
