Interesting 2020 scooter videos

Wish therre were motorcycle shows like this around these parts.

Just thought some of you might be interested to see some of the new scooters coming out in 2020 for the rest of the world. Well, interesting to me anyway. Sadly, most will probably never make it into the US. I especially like the Royal Alloy 300 and Italjet Dragster 200. Actually, I'd love to have the Dragster as a playtoy. I also find it interesting that both Yamaha and Kymco will be offering Piaggio MP3 type 3-wheel scooters in their new lineup. The Kymco even has integrated saddlebag mounts.

I've been thinking about buying another motorcycle, but because of their weather protection and storage/carrying capabilities, I'm thinking a bigger scooter might make more sense for my needs.

In Portland, Oregon, next weekend is the One Motorcycle Show. Itâ€™s mostly custom motorcycles but usually there will be a few scooters/mopeds.

I think the Royal Alloy will make it to the US.

That Dragster looks pretty awesome. I usually donâ€™t like modern designs but that one works.

The Vespa GTS 300 is also an option. It had an engine upgrade last year. Itâ€™s got plenty of power and great weather protection.

I watched a review of the 2020 GTS 300 HPE. The earlier models have a higher top speed, but the power and torque of the HPE engine is incredible.

Doesn't the Royal Alloy 300 use a Vespa engine? Did I see that somewhere?

I could have a bike for every day of the week.

The Vespa and Royal Alloy engines do look very similar. I see they are available for preorder in the UK. It would be a tough choice to pick between a Vespa and a Royal Alloy. Theyâ€™ve done a great job on the RA and it looks great.

I can see the bottom falling out of the Lambretta market. Why buy an old 2t when you could buy a faster, cleaner, automatic scooter.

It was Scomadi that looked into using a Piaggio/Vespa engine in their proposed large engine scooter. That never got worked out between Scomadi and Piaggio. I presume that Royal Alloy sources their engine in China though it could be a Sym design.

The Royal Alloy 300 is possibly using a Chinese built version of the older Vespa 300 motor(about 21.5 hp.)

Thatâ€™s an interesting review. The air filter box looks like itâ€™s from a GTS. I like the way the panels remove for easier access to the engine etc.

To bad about this comment:

â€œEverything under the panels is nice and tidy, much neater than an LML for instance â€“ so far so good.â€�

Some observations:

It's interesting that scooter companies are broadly increasing displacements. Gone are the days of only 50cc, 125cc, and 150cc engines in the line-ups. It's about time. They're filling the long time gap between 150cc and Maxi-scooters.

It appears step through scooters are disappearing. Other than the Royal Alloy 300 and the Kymco People 300, step through's are gone. Not only are they mostly gone, but the remaining gap is getting higher and higher. One of the new Honda scooters looks like a motorcycle because the gap is almost non-existent. Swinging a leg over them will be no different than a motorcycle.

Peugeot and Piaggio also have 3 wheelers now. It's officially a trend.

Wonder who at RA decided it was a good idea to mount the rear rack at an angle to make it as useless as possible.

I suppose it depends on what you want to mount there. If you're only ever going to want to mount a luggage case, then yeah...no bueno. But for strapping books, bags, toolkits, etc, I can still see it being useful.
