Opinions please....quickly.

Post by Legend »

quick opinions. I am going and getting a scooter today. Do I go with the Buddy 125 or the Pampalona? Is the 25cc's worth the extra 200 bucks? I like the solid colors better but am thinking that because this will be my only sourch of transportation (I live in Phoenix, AZ) that the extra 25 cc's may be worth it. Quick opinions anyone?

I'd go with a normal buddy, we had a friend who moved to AZ, he says the land is all flat so it was perfect for his vino.

It depends on what you like though, if you like a international series bike and the extra 25cc, go with it. But from what others say, it just has more 0-30+ acceleration and a few mph top end, but really your top end can depend on how heavy you are. If your really heavy, the top end will be less anyways just because the engine is already working harder to push it and your body down the road.

What normal solid color were you considering?

Pamplona all the way :D :D

Seriously, if you figure the cost of the Stebel horn, the upgraded headlight and the labor to install them on the 125cc, it will probably run you $200.00 and you are still 25cc short. And you get something a little different.

From test riding the 150 I haven't noticed too much difference. It did seem like the 150 carried my weight up hill a bit better though. I wasn't able to check the true top speed of the 150 though (the one I rode wasn't broken).

In some states there are roads that have 150cc minimums to gain access (these tend to be highways though) so if your state is one of those states than maybe go for the 150 (if you plan on going on limited access roads, which I'd probably advised against doing anyway). Ultimately, get what you like they're both great choices.

The stebel horn and other upgrades are great additions!

Thanks for the opinions. I was considering the solid burnt orange color for the 125 and the red for the 150. Still undecided. I may go with the 150 just in case. I am not fat but not light either. 220lbs. I guess I will see when I get there.

At least you got the right attitude! You're a dealer's dream!! j/k. Let me be the first to congratulate you on your new scooter! Personally, I'd go with the 150 just for the extra features (white walls, Stebel horn, etc). I'm sure if you really want the orange, you can find someone wanting to trade plastics with you.
Have a great day!

I'd go for the 150's for the horn, longer mirrors and tires as well. I have an Italia and I would possibly get the 150 Italia, but the other two are pretty cool as well.

I'm already putting the longer mirrors on mine whenever they come in, and a stebel horn is next and then when I eventually replace tires, I'll get the Maxis. So I'll end up with all that stuff anyway.

All 2008 models have longer mirrors, not just the international bikes.

Right. And AFAIK the upgraded headlight was placed on ALL 2007 models (my 2007 has one) and 2008's, not just on 150cc models!

But I would go for the extra 25cc's. My longer mirror add-ons cost me $45, and a louder Stebel horn costs about $25-30, uninstalled. Plus you get nice color combos, along with some added ooomph... Not a bad deal for $200, IMO! 8)

definitely need to see the new intl's IRL. They look so pretty and so different at the shop than the images show. They are really quite spectacular.

I think the St Tropez was really my favorite color combo, but to me it looks too grey in the distance. I went with the red because I really like it, but also because i think it gives just an ounce of more visibility.

the more visibility we can create for ourselves the better.

++1 to the Pamplona. Horn. Mirrors. +25cc's. Plus, that coolio country sticker on the rear fender. If you're going to go for it... Go for It!

Well, go for it, but do it safely, of course.

I've always liked the Buddy. Then I saw the Pamplona. Now, I LOVE the Buddy. I already have two Vespas and will hopefully get my new Buddy in a couple of weeks. I was sold on the extra 25cc (freeway legal, if you must), the beautiful color combo, and the LOUD horn. I don't think you'll regret paying the extra $$ for the Pamplona. DO IT!

She arrived!

These pics were taken with my camera phone, which is why they are so dark. I'll get better ones tomorrow when I have better light.

Hmmm, other pamps I've seen have chrome mufflers, how come yours is all black? It looks nice, but it is odd to see 2 stock mufflers that are completely different.

I asked the dealer about that. He said the 150 was black mufflers and the 125's were chrome. The website shows pictures with chrome but they might be showing the "photo retouched" versions still, I suppose. Anyway, he said it didn't come with any chrome to be added to it. If there is supposed to be chrome, then I want it. I like it looks really cool.

The 125cc bikes have black mufflers with a chrome heat shield, I remember seeing 2 other members show off pamp pictures, both had a stock muffler that had been chromed and had a black heat shield, still though, it looks nice with the bike! And there always is the performance muffler when your warranty goes out.

Nice scooter Christy, congrats!

I prefer solid colors as well but I think I'd definitely opt for a 150. When I test rode the St. Tropez it didn't feel a whole lot faster but it definitely had an easier time getting to 50 and above. Once broken in, I have to assume that the 150 will out accelerate the 125 and add 5-10 mph in top speed.

Also, the areas I know in Arizona are far from flat and that extra displacement will help in the hills. You really can't go wrong either way but, for an extra $200, you're getting a deal, as far as I'm concerned.

Right, Christy?

Hmmm, actually I think the tip of the muffler itself is chrome...the shield is black though. the images on genuinescooters.com show an extra chrome portion on the shield.

Now you've got me wondering if I'm lying to you. I'm gonna go run into the garage and check.

EDIT: I didn't lie, yay! Chrome tipped exhaust. Fully black heat shield. no added chrome on the shield.

AWESOME!!! That rocks... I shoulda got the St. Tropez, but I couldn't hold out that long. She's a BEAUT! I know it's brand new, so you prolly don't want to mess with anything, but I think that floor mat would look good if it was black to match the little backrest... Either that or get the backrest covered to match the seats, I dunno, what am I saying? WHO CARES?!?! IT LOOKS AMAZING!!!

The floor mat definitely needs to match something...as does the backrest.

I think it'd be easier to pain the backrest to match the seat as it's just hard formed plastic, but I don't really know if thats a good idea (or how to go about it the right way).

As far as the floor mat, I wish it were red like the floor! Can that be painted? I imagine it'd be hard to match it...

Maybe one day I'll work it out. I'm open to ideas here.

:)

I'll be one of the few that will say go with the color and style you want. The extra power maybe be nice but rarely needed. Don't forget you'll be trading fuel economy for that extra power reserve.

As for the horn, I don't ever use mine.

Put the extra $200 toward accessories like a windscreen, Prima pipe or top case. The short windscreen will give you a performance boost and make for a comfortable ride.

You probably already got it, but I vote for the 150 because of the resale value. The Int'ls are supposed to be limited edition, right?
