What to do?

Post by Christy »

Yesterday I realized that if I wait until Tuesday to take my Buddy in for it's first service, i'll be well over the 200 miles recommended by the manufacturer. So I called and made an appointment for today (tomorrow i'm too busy).

I had several things on my mind this morning so when I got to the dealership I just let him begin the oil change and service. When he was close to finishing I asked if they had the chrome cowl protectors in stock and how much they were.

(I remember from scooterworks that they sell them for $139).

He said that they do have them and that they cost $140, plus installation which is only 15-20 minutes. I told him to go ahead and install them if he has time (there was only one guy working today, the other guy is at a scooter rally). Anyway, he said that he did have available time so he went ahead and installed them.

Not paying a whole lot of attention because my mind was still on the kajillion other things I have to do today, I paid and ran off to get home so I could begin all those other things.

When I got home I took a look at her....and was really disappointed.

1. the front chrome bar that has the passenger foot pedals is missing all together! I don't know if the dealer sells them separately or if he forgot to install that part. Image

Compare to the photo scooter works has listed as the same part number and description as what my receipt says

2. the silvery part where the chrome attaches is detached somewhat from the body now...

you can barely see it here on the right side of the photo but it's like a quarter inch. Am I being too anal retentive about that?

The other guy who works there is a friend of mine, but, like I said, he is out of town at a scooter rally and won't be back until Tuesday. Should I call and ask the guy who is there about the foot pegs? What about the slight separation?

I feel totally foolish for not noticing such a big thing as that when I was there this morning and I have so many things to do today and tomorrow that I'd not be able to get back up there until Tuesday or Wednesday (they are closed Sun and Mon).

Anyway, I wanted the cowl protectors installed because if I ordered it from scooterworks I'd have to install it myself and I was already there and having work done and it was only going to be an additional 15 minutes ($21) for installation...but Scooterworks price of $139 includes the passenger footpegs (!!) and my scooter is missing those...

whats a girl to do?

i don't think it'd hurt if you politely called him up and asked. let him know you just wanted to make sure.

The foot pegs are sold seperately. Honestly, you might find this to be a blessing in disguise, because a lot of riders have complained about feeling cramped or crowded with the pegs attached. If you search for "foot pegs" on this board, you'll be able to read people's reviews.

As for the gaping thing, you may be more satisfied if you adjust the screws yourself. I know that when I go to my local shop, it can be a long wait for something that I could DIY at home. YMMV! Good luck. :D

I was told by my dealer that the cowl and foot protectors combined were around $175. So $30 less for just the cowl thing sounds about right to me.
I tried sitting on a shop Buddy with those footpegs installed and it was really uncomfortable! (For me anyway..) IMO they take up too damn much floor space, and they're also too high to rest my feet on comfortably....... :P

OK, you guys have made me feel better.

I never even considered that the pegs would decrease the amount of floor space. I find the floor space just barely big enough, so reducing it could make me feel cramped, I think.

Then again, if I had known the pegs weren't included, then I'd have waited till the entire assembly goes on sale again on scooterworks and bought it there. Then I'd have to install it myself, which would be a pain, but I'd not mind too much. And I'd have the choice of trying it out (and then taking it off b/c of space). LOL! But, whats done is done and I still like the looks of the cowl protectors.

Thanks!

i'm really short, 5'2" and i love to put my feet on the stock passanger foot rests when the feeling hits me. I'd not take that away because i'm not going to be putting anyone on the back for more than a short joy ride anyway.

I personally put my feet up on the stock passenger rests like Louie, its nice to change position from time to time to keep your legs from getting tired...

When bought my buddy I had the cowl protectors put on straight away.
When I asked the dealer about the footpegs they told me not to get them....when I asked Why? They informed me that everyone of the people that worked at the shop had, had "mishaps" with the footpegs. Generally getting tangled in them in one way or another...sometimes leading to them dumping the scooter.

Hmmmm, "no pegs please!"

My dealer told me it's ok to go over 300+ miles for the 200 miles service. I went to 250+ miles, plus my temp plates expired, it's ok to have the bike with a hundred extra miles on her before service, it wont hurt.

I knew a guy who had a vespa et4 who never once had the oil changed, rode 2000 miles and his bike died. He had to have it cleaned out and fixed up, but it ran again.
